Mom car

Added a new vehicle to sit next to the ZLE,
First BMW, always liked the m3's but have no experience with them. If any of you have past experience I'd love to here it.
42k miles and they gave me a 45k mile warranty. Primarily will be the wife's car, the look on all the sales guys faces when she said it was going to be her mom car was priceless

Ive had two and never again, built well but to many glitches, the BMW mechanic told me my GT was a ticking time bomb, good luck.

I have a 17 competition and haven't had any issues at all, but I only have 20k miles on it. I would suggest checking the top mount inter-cooler fluid level once a month or each fuel fill because they have been known to leak internally. If modded, spun crank hubs are a real possibility too. Other than that the F80 is a great kiddo and grocery hauler. Enjoy!

Had an V10 M5. Great car but rod bearing issues and possible 30k replacement motor had me running back the Chevy!

I came from an 16' M3. They are over rated and over priced. Mine was a disaster, if you search my thread history, you will see my many complaints.

In summary, the drivetrain is amazing, especially in DCT form, but the rest of the car sucks for anything over 7/10th driving. When hustling over 7/10th, the suspension has trouble keeping up (rebound), the stability control system is WAY over zealous and fights you, the brakes will vibrate from pad deposit build up, and it struggles with traction.

If you drive it under 7/10th, its a great daily, but IMO it is embarrassing for a //M badge at anything over that, the Ultimate Driving Machine, it is NOT!!

Yeah, I had some electronic glitches that were very worrying. They are smooth cars and you get a massive amount of torque. They don't make 400+hp at the crank, it's at the wheels, so it'll give the ZLE a run for it's money in a straight line for sure. There's a reason that many of these are let go around 20-40K, it's usually when a lot of service and tires are due, like brakes, rotors, transmission, filters, etc. At least with a 45K warranty you should be ok in the case of a significant issue.

I don't know if it's a great car, they were very high strung and the V10 required certain actions to "unlock" all of the power, etc. It's like everything is great when it's working right, but it's been made so complex and exotic that those conditions are hard to meet outside of when it came off the production line.

Thanks for the replies guys, bummer to hear they can have issues. Hopefully any issues should be taken care of with only $100 deductible. Definitely no zl1, let alone zle, and noticed some handling inadequacies mentioned when we went on a little spirited drive. For the wife though, should work well like was said, she definitely doesnt drive like me haha

I see you asked a Camaro forum about a Bimmer and got the expected response! Not a ZL1 and not expected to be driven like one, it should be fine for your wife.

I have owned several BMW'S. Fine automobiles for the most part. The current generation M cars have been neutered. They are not as edgy or track capable as the previous cars. Only advice I can give that you should heed. If it starts having electrical issues get rid of it, fast. Once they start they do not stop, they just move around.

Right on, I appreciate the heads up and will keep and eye out.

I can only give you second hand info, long story short. My neighbor had the exact same car, after so many trips to the dealer for reocuuring problems he traded it in. He cursed that car and vowed never to own another BMW.

I had an M3. The car had electrical gremlins and left me stranded several times. All covered under warranty, but quickly got sick of having to have the car towed out of my garage.

I've never owned one but came close. I almost bought an M2 Competition when shopping for my Camaro. I was down to those 2 out of like 7 different models from various manufacturers. My buddy (who's owned several BMW's) informed me that they're fun cars but be prepared to spend lots of money to keep them on the road. His opinion is that, for the money, they're the most unreliable cars on the road and that simple service visits can cost hundreds of dollars.

Great looking car, though! Good luck!
