Carry on, this thread rocks on oil cooler info, full to you guys involved with experimentation and sharing.

The nice thing about supplementing the OEM system is the components can be smaller. The core will take up less space and weigh less. Which is good considering all the weight is in front of you wheels, not the best place.

bringing this back from the dead... If the oil temps are calculated, and you guys are running after market coolers and its still showing really high temps while driving hard, how are combating the ecu still pulling timing etc when it thinks the oil is over temp? Strictly tuning and ignoring the factory gauge with confirmation with a real gauge?

ENGINE TEMPS AFTER OIL COOLER DELETE QUESTION?

I am pretty sure oil temp has zero influence on the tune at all. Coolant temp influences timing and injection. Oil temp is hardly more than a gimmick gauge from the factory.

I can say with certainty I have never had any issue revolving around oil temp.

The engine still has an oil temp sensor and if the oil temps get too high even with an aftermarket cooler it’ll still reduce power. No changes to the tune are necessary, you’re just giving the oil more time to cool off

What engine and car are you talking about? LS3 does not have an oil temp sensor from the factory and thus it does not provide sensor feedback to the ECM and does not modify anything in timing or injection pulse width.

LS3 and part number 12603781 unless it’s only a level sender and not a level & temp sender

Doesn’t it put the car into reduced power mode when the oil temp gets too high?

Nope. It’s a level sensor only. Gives a warning if you run the oil too low in the pan. The oil temp gauge is algorithm based only. It’s one of the reason those of us who road track our cars add external coolers with temperature sensors.

Deleted my factory oil cooler and have seen no increase or change in temp. Nice to have the extra weight off the front end and delete a known possible leak
