Email this knob and tell him to do his job.
Tired of paying high prices? Email this hapless puppet and tell him to do his job. Gas should be approx 75 cents a litre considering the dollar and crude prices. I emailed him a pissload of facts a week ago proving that we are getting jacked 25cents a litre. Very professional and respectful letter and I got nothing back from anyone in his office etc. Government watchdog.............please...

Actually you're right that he doesn't do anything about the issue. But then again, no politician does. What Dan McTeague does do however is provide a free service to the general public of notifying the public of price increases/decreases BEFORE they happen which I find very useful. I almost hate to say it but that service alone has made him about the most useful politician I know of. Funny thing is his party will still never get my vote.

How do you figure we're getting screwed out of $0.25/L? The basic cost of crude is around $0.50/L, plus refining and distribution (~$0.20), plus 2 or 3 levels of profit, plus taxes ... I don't see how we're getting screwed that bad. The Americans have lower taxes, get cheaper crude, and have lower distribution costs.

CAA figures we pay about 4-5 cents/L too much in the Montréal area right now... Yep, there are lots of taxes here. Governement could lower the price, but would just pick up a bit more on your paycheck. I prefer to pay for something I use than just have money randomly plowed on my paycheck.

LOL gotta love Canada. Everyone just accepts being bent over. No wonder the government is like a nursery school free for all. There's no opposition to it.

At any rate, even if they eliminate every extra penny of gas tax, what would that accomplish? They'd just raise taxes on something else. Hate gas tax? Don't use as much gasoline, then you don't have to pay it.

Crude price, when it was this price the oil was about 100 a barrel.
Strong dollar Lower demand this time round Nevermind,, though cant actually speak out against perfect Canada lol. Personally it doesnt affect me that much its Canada in general and probly more Ontario that seems like such a scam half the time. And I have lived and worked in 3 other countries so no oh "go see what its like somewhere else" lol. Ususally 9/10 those are the people that have never been anywhere.

I simply don't know how you are justifying this beyond a gut feeling. Show me proof to support your position and I'll reconsider my own. But making general anti-government/tax statements isn't going to convince me. By the way, I guess I'm part of that 1/10. I have visited several Europe nations within the last year though I didn't have to buy any gas. I could still see the prices, do the conversion, remember what prices were like back home, and compare. Not that it matters since its possible to look up those sorts of things on the internet.

Gasoline is approx 50% of a barrel (42 US gallons) of oil ...
Extraction costs for conventional oil are around 5$ a barrel ... Transportation costs, once your pipeline is amortized are around 2$ a barrel ... Refining costs, once your plant is amortized are around 1$ a barrel ... Transportation costs, for refined gas, once your pipeline is amortized are around 1$ a barrel ... So, US dollar oil prices range from a low of 9$ a barrel to a high, for a completely non-amortized chain, of around 22$ a barrel ... so, just counting gasoline, 9$ for 21 gallons to 22$ for 21 gallons ... 42.8¢ a gallon to 1.04$ a gallon ... of course you can add in the fact that the oil companies get a lot of other product out of a barrel of oil, perhaps not a valuable per gallon in terms of demand, and that gas, diesel, heating fuel, av-gas can be interconverted for a price ... yah, I would say we are paying a little too much, especially when there has not been a new refinery built in years in Canada ... - SK
