Any suggestions in brands of recommended engine oils and additives to use?

Any suggestions in brands of recommended engine oils and additives to use? I just purchased a 2015 LS Camaro, and the manual recommends Mobil 1 5w-30, Jiffy Lube only uses PEnnzoil 5w-30 Dexos. What is ypur suggestion with PEnnzoil, Comparable? Full Synthetic, partial synthetic?

Secondly, the additive PROLONG to use in conjunction for every oil change.

I have used PROLONG on my last car 1999 Firebird Pontiac and it clocked up to 229,000 miles used in addition to every oil change, and that Firebird still ran really quick on freeways with no engine problems!!

Doe anyone one of you Camaro users use PROLONG?

Let me know thanks!!

Never used additives. Pennzoil is good stuff.
When I buy used cars, always change oil, trans, diff fluids and plugs.
As long as you uses Dexos oils, you'll be fine.
Have fun.

Any synthetic 5w-30 Dexos oil will be fine. No additives needed.

Also, I thought Prolong was a male sex enhancement?

0w16 oil just came out in May for direct injection engines and it's supposed to solve the carbon buildup on the intake valves and excessive timing chain/valve train wear issues DI motors experience.

Swapped to it myself and the oil got dirty extremely quickly. I've always used Mobil 1 with 16k on the clock so it was surprising to see how much it's cleaning.

I hardly see how an oil can stop carbon build up on valves since the oil never sees the valves.

Huh.

Apparently nobodies heard of having valve cleaning or walnut blasting done on direct injection engines. Since it looks like all future engines will be DI you might wanna become familiar.

Don't think I'm gonna jump on this bandwagon anytime soon. The old school guy in me is hesitant to use an oil with viscosity slightly thicker than penetrating oil. Sure, the valves MAY stay cleaner but I don't want to trade off bearing, cam and valvetrain protection.
For now I'll stick with the recommend 5w-30 Mobil One dexos, use a catch can and do a valve cleaning in the future if inspection dictates the need.

Agreed, and to be honest our cars do not need this. The V6's maybe could benefit as they are DI, but the LS does not need this.

I'm a fan of running what the manufacturer suggests, although I am running Amsoil Z-Rod 10w30 - and that is only for the added zinc/phosphorus package.
