Wire rear view camera into aftermarket radio?

Hi All,

Can you tap into the wiring of the factory rear view camera and run it to an aftermarket head unit? Trying to see if that’s doable or if you need a new camera mounted back there.

Thanks!

Mike

Pac RPK5-GM4101 dash includes everything you need for the install. Harness, SWC, USB retention, AUX retention, back up camera retention and antenna adapter.

So if I go PAC, it will forward the signal to my new receiver? I’m hoping to forward the picture and view it on the new head unit since the mirror picture is small and hard to see.

I would think you should be able to tap into a couple wires to make it happen?

The idatalink maestro does this as well , not worth hacking up the harness to find imho.

The PAC kit does not include what you need to tap the factory rear view mirror. That requires a harness from gen5diy. You have a choice on whether you want to have your video remain on your mirror or just move it to your new head unit.

I chose to keep the video on my mirror. I advise getting an RCA extension as it will not reach behind your radio otherwise. The mirror is a better place for the camera anyway. Don't forget to tap your reverse light to trigger the camera!

Thanks for this. Yeah, wow. Surprised it is so involved to just relocate to the head unit. I am probably just going to keep it on the mirror. Maybe it's worth just installing a second rear camera for $20 and then have both. Seems cheaper/better to me....

So different question - Assuming the head unit supports it, can I just go ahead and get a maestro rr but use the PAC kit? Will the maestro rr also relocate the rear view camera to the screen?

No. The Maestro RR is just a different brain interface, and it is independent of your camera. You are faced with the same issue. The Maestro difference is that it has an OBDII interface to route data to your Maestro enabled stereo.

The iDatalink Maestro MRR2 and Kit-Cam1 will include the necessary harnesses and adapters for Camaro 2010-2015.

I found that CAM1 retain a lot more than PAC.
It also can display all diagnostic codes directly onto you radio.
I started with PAC too, now swapped over to iDatalink.

It comes down to nothing more than the look of the pac vs idatalink. I just really like the stock look, though the idatalink has been growing on me quite a bit.
