No you are lucky, every set I have seen online at giveaway prices when I call the dates are 4 plus years.

I have never payed any attention to date codes until you mentioned it today, I actually had to call the goodyear tire store for them to tell me what numbers to give them. They said that this was good and anything that had been stored properly even three or four years old would be good, is that your understanding also?

I had this conversation with Goodyear engineers about 6 years ago regarding high performance tires that would be used at high speed consistent 100 mph buzzing and hard cornering. Of course they have to say you should not use beyond date code. Then off the record we discussed typical signs of any sidewall cracking as a sure reason to not run the tire in any performance criteria. I store mine in a basement at 70 degrees with controlled humidity, and no source of UV light. The UV light is the biggest destroyer of the compound. Excessive dryness will along with any UV source will begin to break the resins down. If you can be assured the tire has been in the environment described above then you can exceed the date code. If you cannot then inspect both the inner and outer sidewall for possible dry rot and limit use to getting ice cream and cruising. Now some will say they don’t worry about date codes.. Ever wonder why you see so many RV trailers pulled to the side of the road during the summer. Exposed to sun all year and the owners only go by mile use not date code and dry rot.

In summary if it’s only a couple of years old you will be good. The limit for putting never used tires in service is 6 years.

Yea you lost all of any saving with the shipping cost, it's hard to believe that it would cost $100.00 to you and only $37.70 to me both being on or so close the east coast. I just hope the ones I get are as recent date code as the one's little walter got.

My thinking is that you may be closer to one of their distribution centers.

I got a ~$50 quote from speedy tire to ship to Detroit, two tires. I also looked at Amazon, $150 each w/ free shipping. I guess a couple of places with lower prices now...
