Installed RockfordFosgate P300-8p.

After doing a lot of research on subwoofers, I settled on a RockfordFosgate P300-8p.

https://rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/p300-8p/

I initially looked at the Kicker sub that was specifically designed to fit in the same spot but the $500+ price was just too steep for me and the reviews were really good for the entire P300 series.

Other folks went with the 10 and 12 inch versions but I really didn’t want to give up my already limited trunk space plus I didn’t think I needed the hardcore bass that many people prefer. I just wanted something to enhance the stock BA speakers along with my aftermarket Pioneer NEX headunit.

I won’t go over the install in depth since other folks have done it and explained it in detail. The main thing is making sure you get the tapped speaker wires correct.

One thing I didn’t do was use plastic wire taps. I’m pretty good at soldering so I just stripped the speaker wire harness back and soldered the new wires to it and wrapped it all up in Tessa tape. It looks a lot better than the goofy taps hanging under the speakers. I also didn’t cut the RCAs off the provided connector. Instead I just used the RCA wires that came with the amp install kit and cut those instead. You’re going to need the additional length anyway so I don’t see why they suggest cutting the wires. The power and ground hook up was straight forward, using the side flange on the drivers side for the ground. Running the bass knob was also no big deal if you’ve done any interior work on your car. I just ran it from the console, under the carpet and then along side the main power cable under the rear seat to the trunk.

I’m not feeling comfortable with the auto cutoff. I’m thinking of doing it the correct way and running the remote wire to the aftermarket headunit. If I do that I wonder if I should just go ahead and also run the RCAs too. I’m also getting an after shut off hum which I’ll troubleshoot tomorrow.

How do I like it? So far so good. You really don’t know how lacking in bass the stock speakers are until you hear this unit. I listen to a lot of music with real, not synthesis bass, and now you can actually hear it. Having said that I still think the stock front speakers are still a weak spot.

Aftermarket radio.... ties into the rear speaker outputs... why? A RCA direct into the amp from your radio wouldve been a smarter way. Plus the remote trigger is right at the BA amp. Easy access for on and off

Still a nice setup

I thought the same thing so I got up early and ran RCAs along with a turn on wire. The turn on now works perfectly but for some reason I’m getting nothing out of the RCA connection to the sub. I have a Pioneer 1330NEX and I’ve spent the last few hours troubleshooting it. Maybe I’m missing something in the radio setup but I haven’t been able to find it.

Would this also work with a factory radio ? I don’t mind the stock radio and like it’s simplistic looks.

Supposedly it will since it has an auto power off and you just tap into the speaker wires. I did the tap route last night and it worked fine but the auto off just made me nervous but battery wasn’t drained this morning. Today I ran a remote turn off wire to my aftermarket head unit and that worked perfect but turns out the Home Depot RCA cables were bad and I had to take it out and rerun new cable. Now everything is working fine.

It’s not just the size but also the way it fits in the trunk. I like how it fits nicely on the wasted space on the side. I can still fold down the seat if I’m carrying something long like my fishing rods, clubs or long gun case. I always carry my handgun safe in my trunk for times when I can’t carry it and the best way to secure it is on the metal bracket at the back of the trunk. I also have one of the mini spare kits since I don’t trust the air inflator goop kit, which causes a slight hump in the trunk which makes it awkward when putting stuff flat towards the back.

i have had that amp for 20 years. it's a POWER BD1000A1 on a single 12 and a POWER 500A2.my rockford 12 just gave up the ghost after 20 years so i got a sundown 12 (SA12V2) i'm 51 so that will more than likely last me the rest of my car audio life.
i like 1 sub i feel like less is more so cheap guy is on point with the a single 8.
