Only resonator - Straight pipe. Choose H location guys
Hi Guys,
Today I delete resonator. Made 2 independent straight pipes. I want get some old school muscle sound. Without resonator it is better sounding. I like it. But for future I want connect this pipes with same diameter pipe and make H pipe (After convertors where resonator begins). To get more old muscle sound on idle and make a little bit back pressure. Because I noticed I lose some torque in 2K-2.5K RPM range. Can you describe where to put H connection and make some little back pressure for not losing power. Please look for photo below I marked location for connection of H pipe. Choose which one is better for better sound and little backpressure: Engine: L99, AFM:disabled |

H-pipes don't add backpressure and you don't want backpressure. Now that that's out of the way, it will be pretty much impossible for anyone to tell you where an H-pipe will work best without testing each position on a dyno.

Wouldn't it be easier to get a used LS3 exhaust?

Otherwise I also like the old school sound H-pipe.
After all, that's why I didn't buy any performance exhaust system. All I found was an X-pipe and I just didn't like the sound. I have a vision in my head to once buy a 3 "SW retro chambered, throw out an X-pipe and replace it with an H-pipe. The sound must be awsome !!! |

Judging from all the catback systems I have seen in my time for these Camaros, and mine is an L99 all cammed up, the x will give you more flow and it also will create a raspy sound and sound weird, mine was lije that before the cam. The h will give you a more lower growlier sound for sure but no added flow. The location I put my x in is at location# 2 where the indention is in that big resonator, also the systems that have an h instead like the LS3 the h is also located there, just in front of the trans tunnel cross brace. If you cut open that big resonator you will see that that area has an h cross over to the other side, and the LS3 as well where their resonators are as well. Hope this helps and good luck sir.

I have never heard anyone say my car sounded bad and it has an x-pipe on it. Most people say it sounds pretty awesome. I have the below SOLO Performance on it along with LTs.

How did you determine that's the optimal position? Did you try multiple locations and dyno test each one and optimize the tune for each position? |
