Front camera: where are you tapping for power?

Hi All,

Installing a front camera to go with my pac/kenwood setup and was wondering where people are running the power for the camera. Is there a good spot in the bay?

Thanks for your help!

Mike

Should I run somewhere under the hood or just go all the way to the fuse box or deck itself??

I have mine wired to the dome light switch via the grey wire on the passenger side. My HU only has one camera input so I wired in an automatic video switch that changes from the rear view camera to the front camera view when the front camera gets power.

Thanks for the responses!

Is the thought to go to the fuse box so that you hit a power that’s switched to turn off when the car is off? I suppose if I hit any old power wire then it’ll constantly draw even if the car is off?

I understand the need for a front camera if one were a police but why have one otherwise?

Mainly for when I pull in to tight spaces. The visibility on the car is terrible so I don’t want to tap anything, especially with my aftermarket lip.

Yep, I've had a front camera for years with distance lines to avoid tapping a high curb or parking barrier. I have mine wired hot though as it records motion all the time. Just like the dash cam and the rear cam. I have a battery saver on them so if the battery voltage drops too low they shut off.
