75W 90 Gear Oil for TR6060?
I'm about ready to do a rear end and trans oil change so I've been reviewing a lot of the older threads regarding recommended oils for both. I've seen some conflicting information (I know, big surprise with so many people offering their opinions!). However, this is a pretty serious subject, as using the incorrect type could obviously damage the parts.
This thread pasted below mentions that some are using the same 75W90 gear oil in both the rear diff. AND the trans. How can that be good for the trans if GM recommends Dexron ATF (or alternately Tremec recommends Mobil 1 synthetic ATF)-- both of which MUST have much lower viscosity that 75W90 gear oil! What am I missing here? https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showt...=519041&page=2 |

That doesn't make sense. I know I would hardly be able to shift if I ran gear oil in the trans. You definitely want an ATF, I have had decent luck with Redline.
You also want to make sure you have a gear oil with friction modifiers for a limited slip differential, some include it and some you have to add it separately. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

For a TR6060 use Redline D4 atf.

The diff uses gear oil, the trans uses manual trans lube.
I've had the best luck with Royal Purple 75w90 max gear in the diff. It already has the limited slip additive in it. And Royal Purple Synchromax in the TR6060 trans. It will shift a little smoother than the OE fluid. Easy to get both from Amazon. 2 for the diff, 4 for the trans. Fill each until it runs out the fill hole. |

I know this is a little old but doing my own research I've read that royal purple is one of the only ones with friction modifiers in it. I know redline says it but I've read people using redline and mobil 1 having chattering issues. I'm going to use redline d4 atf for trans and royal purple max for the rear. The rear only holds 1 quart. You can buy a gallon of redline on Amazon for 43 dollars.

I haven't had any chatter problems with Mobile 1 LS differential fluid. I did have a problem with the LUCAS. It says it's good for LS, but it doesn't have the friction modifiers.
