curious why you don’t install a truetrac with gears yourself? toss in a lpw cover for insurance.
I was planning on going with a 1le diff myself but figured upgrading my original would be more cost efficient. is there much difference between the 1le diff vs the ss? the prices for used zl1 diffs and axles are pretty pricey on eBay.....

To upgrade ss diff to 3.91 gears, install kit, true trac, diff bushings, lpw cover, labor for setting up gears you're well over 1500 invested probably closer to 1800. This is why I want to buy a 1le with truetrac or ss diff with 3.91 gears and truetrac and just toss it in. Maybe I should have included in the title "or SS diff with true track and 3.91 gears" but I figured that was a given. ZL1 diff with 3.73 gears is my main goal. I'm just keeping my options open.

ok gotcha, I’m doing mine on my own....guess the labor really ups the price. I’m at $1050ish for all the parts. Been looking for a zl1 diff but cant justify $2500-3500 for a used high mileage diff and axles. that scammer that probably pm’ed you has a nice one lol , looks brand new!

Eaton tru trac is 580, install kit is 120, non shit gears like aam (gm uses aam) or lingenfelter is 400, lpw diff cover is 230, derlin off set bushing 160. So 1490 before shipping. Labor to setup gears should be around 300-400 if you drop everything off to a shop. My roommate has to tools and ability to do gears and will do it for a little less than shop price. So add shipping and 200 for labor and that puts me at 1800.

A brand new zl1 diff is 1900 from gm. plenty of guys running 1500 wheel horsepower on manual cars doing clutch dumps and hardly any ZL1 diff failures regardless of mileage. Brazil one axles are also damn near indestructible until you start getting into the 4 digit horsepower numbers. So saving money not having to buy 1000-1,500 axles to upgrade my SS axles is also a benefit for the ZL1 swap.

I have a fully forged 416 engine with low compression so eventually I do plan on going ProCharger which means I probably would have to put a ZL1 diff in anyways. This is my reasoning for leaning more towards the zl1 swap. But for the right price I won't mind throwing in a already built SS diff with true trac and 391 gears or 1LE diff with true trac since I'm still NA.

Correct need zl1 axles and driveshaft for zl1 diff. I use to see zl1 complete swaps for 2k and now they're 3k complete. I seen a couple recently for for 2500obo shipped with axles.

Prices are going up for everything car related as demand is going up and supply is going down due to supply chains breaking down. But most people aren't aware a zl1 diff is 1900 brand new from gm. As people become more aware and stop paying stupid prices than resellers won't be able to take advantage.

Where are you seeing these complete ZL1 rears at? I am okay with paying $3K. I can't seem to find any online...

Ebay. But they sell quick when they include axles

At this point the zl1 stuff it getting so high you can almost buy the stuff brand new. A well known reseller if gm parts leecparts is selling a used zl1 diff for 2k. i showed him the link where you can buy zl1 diff brand new from summit or gm for 2k shipped and his response was "people aren't aware you can buy them new at 2k and will happily pay 2k for a used one."

The whole point of ZL1 diff swaps was because they're half the price of going to a 9in swap. Now because of shady resellers you're really only looking at 1000 more for a 9in swap which has a lot better gear and carrier options

Theres a complete 373 zl1 cradle minus calipers with axles and drive shafts for $3400 or best offer up right now, looks mint.
PI see what u mean, too expensive beefing up a stock diff, way better off on the wallet and overall strength going zl1. I’ve changed my mind unless someone posts a reasonable price a 1.91 diff that your passing on but the looks doubtful lol
