What should the oil temp be running on a L99? My Dad thinks it's running high now after cam swap. Also is their a Stock Oil cooler? Thanx.

Oil temp needs to be above 210 to "flash-off" the harmful contaminates that are volatile so the PCV system can evac them to prevent engine damage. The max is what BJorn stated to be safe. At that high of temp though conventional oil will begin to break down so full syn is a must.

Bringing this back as I have had the oil get pretty hot recently on long WOT runs. Looked into the temps for good synthetics and it seems 300F is not an issue. It hasn't gotten that hot, but over 250F for sure.
Going to do a change and see. Might need a bigger cooler, but it doesn't get very hot here.
Not going to stop driving the way I like, so a solution must ba available.
A hot day here is 90F or less.

Are you saying that 300F is not an issue with good synthetic oil? I am running Amsoil Dominator 15w50 race oil with lots of phosphorous and zinc and installed an aftermarket Earls 16 row, wide oil cooler and my temps in town with ambient temps above 105 are only 225 at max.

When i take it out on the back roads for spirited driving it goes up to 240F. At highway speeds it runs about 210. I am however worried about temps on the road course and thought that 300 deg was not good for the oil at those temps. What has your research led you to conclude?

I am hoping that when i take it to the 2.5 mile road course that i can keep the temps below 270 for the first 3-5 laps, then back off if i approach 300F. I am far from stock though?

I'm not sure taking it there often is good, but it seems that the wear protection isn't much worse than at 270F.
Mine will get 250-260, then I have to let off and cruise for a while, cools to 230-210. It takes about 7-8 miles to get hot, and only in the summer months. I'm very close to stock, worried about my turbo set-up if this combo gets hot. So much oil in these cars I didn't think it would be an issue over short-medium blasts. There will be much more heat in an FI set-up, so I guess I had better start digging in. Didn't move out to the country to not enjoy the empty roads...

Im running custom full sweep oil pressure and oil temp gauges and have the temp sensor positioned on the line coming off the oil cooler. Not oem. My oil cooler is also a custom 16 row Earls performance wide cooler.
