Texas mile has a decline at the end.

I don't think you could even do it on a regular public highway, although they are fairly straight and wide, they aren't flat or smooth enough. That is of course if you could get permission to close down a major highway, since its extremely dangerous and stupid to attempt going over 170 mph on an open road.

In any case, it would be damm near impossible for an average individual to get permission to go for a highspeed run at any of those locations.
where did the 170 figure come from LOL....

Bonneville isn't paved ... anyway, I don't think the salt flats are as good for getting maximum speed with a car like the Camaro. If you have something capable of doing 300 mph you'd need the space only it can provide. But running on dirt slows cars down.

I estimated the Camaro should be good for 180 mph, so I knocked 10 off that to be conservative.

Yeah it is governed at 155 because of tires. Personally, I would worry some knucklehead would remove the governer to find out what the top end is.... and DIE trying! I think Mlee was just trying to inform whomever that knucklehead might be that it was done for a REASON.

Proof of this? First i've heard of the mile having a decrease in elevation. Assuming that there IS one, it wouldn't be much.

I checked with Tirerack and the tires on the Camaro SS are Y rated 186 mph.
I believe GM limited the Camaro to 155mph to save lives. They didn't want crazy people doing
170mph in stock Camaros.

A stock Camaro SS is definately capable of 165-170 mph (with limiter removed).

I've been as fast as 145 in my last Camaro and it felt very stable. 155 is plenty fast for a street car.

2010 Camaro tires are actually Z rated. which is 149 and over... so GM gave it an extra 6 mph and set the governor.

S- Up to 112mph
T- Up to 118mph
U- Up to 124mph
H- Up to 130mph
V- Up to 149mph
Z- 149mph and over
W- Up to 168mph
Y- Up to 186mph

IMO The max MPH your Camaro can do at the end of a quarter mile track is as fast as you need to go.

Just makes sense to me...
