Replacement Z/28 CAI Filter
The search feature failed me. I have an SS with the Z/28 CAI. Where’s the best place to purchase a new filter element? Do you all ever just blow them out with compressed air?
Thanks, gents.

Rock auto and you can blow them out from the inside out, trying not to get too close with direct compressed air as not to destroy the filter fiber.
Good luck |

Would you use also the air filter from K&N - the Rp-5168 - or only the oem?

I would stay with the dry type disposable filter. I am not a fan of the washable reusable filters which most if not all require some type of oiling after cleaning to keep the filtration material in check. Apparently a lot of people tend to over oil the filtration material leading to fouled MAF sensors or other engine issues. Plenty of people have shared their after the fact problems / challenges in various vehicle forums. Since I don’t use washable filters I can’t speak further to their performance claims. It is worth noting the Z/28 OEM dry filter was made by K&N, it is mentioned in this article: http://www.superchevy.com/news/2014-...parts-packages |

Thanks! Did I understand correctly that the problems you mentioned can only occur when I clean the filter and then oil it? With a new filter there are no problems, only after cleaning and oiling it, right? - Last edited by 47Ronin; 03-19-2021 at 08:35 PM. |

https://www.knfilters.com/faq https://www.knfilters.com/maf/massairfindings.htm The FAQ also states you could throw some error codes just by installing their filter for a variety of reasons. I would think using one that is pre-oiled, new out of the box, poses less risk than you oiling it yourself, especially the first time. I would also assume when you wash it the you could not get it clean enough leaving dirt and soap residue in the filter media before even getting to the oil application. There are many of these filters in use on all types of cars but you have to ask yourself with the Z/28, if the K&N reusable filter was that much better why did the GM engineers opt for the dry filter instead, also made by K&N supposedly? They were already throwing all kinds of performance parts at the car and asking $76k for it, I don’t think another $20 would have broke the bank if the performance gains were that substantial. The same is to be said about this K&N product for our cars: https://www.knfilters.com/blog/get-a...ur-z28-camaro/ I would be curious to know if another member here ever purchased one and what gains were observed. |

Thanks for this nice explanation. That absolutely convinced me to keep my hands off the K&N filter. |
