Question about manually shifting an auto

Hey guys. When using my padal shifter in manual mode, i run out 1st gear and it automatically shifts to 2nd then a quick jump to 3rd. This doesn seem right. Is this something in my tune or just another nanny control built in? There has to be a way to truly shift the car in manual mode when i want it to shift, right?

There would be a shift override that would prevent the transmission from over revving the engine in the event that you forgot to shift. Mine does this as well. When your engine rpm is higher in 1st than the 2nd gear automatic shift point then it shifts past 2nd to the next preset shift point, 3rd.

^^^^ this is correct, mine does it as well. It is a safety built in so when you hit the limiter, it doesn't over rev the engine and will automatically shift to the safe rpm limit and gear. This way ya can't blow it up...

I had a little go once with an Infiniti and forgot I was in 2nd gear at the light. (before a tune that now puts it in 1st) It bounced off limiter but I don’t recall it shifting. ? But I let off the go pedal immediately. Yeah, I got my butt kicked.

You talk about falling on your face. I think the unexpected negative G’s made the seat belt snap tight.

So theres no way to disable it? The problem is there id a drlay in the shift and it seems no matter what i do, this happens. Rev limiter is in place to keep the motor from popping. Not a fan of this nanny. Makes the manual shift pretty much useless

Ahh! The joy of having an actual manual. No offense guys. Just really enjoy rowing gears.

I get it. Would love a grinder stick. Like many I’ve read here, we got that auto-mixer so mama could drive it. And in my case (prolly like others) she RARELY drives it. Go figger. : /

If you have any kind of modded exhaust, you can use the paddles, let off the gas between gears and make it ‘sound’ like you pushed in a clutch. Of course, I never do this because it would be so lame.

(I do it a lot)

Yep, no way to disable it, or make the shifts any quicker, according to my tuner. That's why when you want to race the car, leave it in sport mode so the computer can "do it's thing" as tuned. Reason being is that the computer is set to tell the trans and get it primed to shift and what line pressure and all that jazz BEFORE it actually dos the shift. What I have noticed in mine is that there is about a 1 second and about 200rpm's before the "manual" shift you do actually happens, so yea it is useless...Unless you like using it just driving around town so you can pick a gear to drive in.. Just my experiences over the many years of owning my Camaro and using the tapshift..
