What does zl1 mean?

Hello everyone,
Chevrolet is a well-known car manufacturer in the market. The company has produced many lines of cars. The company's designs have a tough, strong look with a very strong movement. Camaro ZL1 is one of the company's key development products. I don't know what the ZL1 in Camaro ZL1 means. Hope everyone can explain it to me?
Thanks everyone.

That is a good question and some people may not have known this. I will ad a little bit more though. I read a article years back that GM did a research with some company {cannot recall the name} on what number or letter would grab the publics interest on naming their vehicles. The research showed the letter Z was the most one letter that the public said would grab their attention. That is why GM has stuck with that on trucks {Z71} and then again naming the camaro from its heritage ZL1 that was born in 1969. Thanks for bringing that up OP.

ZL1 was the engine code for the aluminum 427 used In Some of the 69 Copos and corvettes. It went on to be designated as Chevys top motor. But that got surpassed by the recent ZR1s. Being in high tech I like to think of it as Zero Latency.
