Rear differential mount broken
2011 Camaro SS M6.
Got the car up on the lift today to pull the rear differential for a gear swap and trutrac upgrade and found that the rear diff cover/mount was broken around the bushing. Anybody else ever seen this? Or know what could possibly cause this? Thanks in advance.... ![]() Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk |

That edge looks so even and smooth, not like a fracture or break..... was it cut that way to install the new bushings because it looks that way to me (my 2-cents worth).

Yeah, like I say, I don't know exactly what caused it. I was more curious if anyone had seen this before or had it happen to them. The bushing kit has been on the car for probably 2 or 3 yrs now.

As above, to me as well it looks like somebody cut it, nothing ever just breaks that evenly..

I would agree with the assessment that it was cut to remove/install the bushings, the corners and cut seem way to square to be natural break from a defect in casting or stress. Did you install the bushings (or pay for them to be installed by someone else) or was it like that from a previous owner?

The bushings were installed by a shop. They were the ones that brought it to my attention on Monday when they went to start removing the diff for a trutrac install.

Well, it ain't right. But, apparently with the rear section missing, it hasn't destroyed the poly bushing and probably does perform mostly like it supposed to. With the open rear portion of the mount, the bushing can deflect out that opening. (I'm presuming those are poly (moderate durometer) and not Delrin (hard durometer) bushings)

Yep, poly bushings. It just caught me off guard when they called about it since they were the shop that did the install.

You should find a new cover or get a PCE diff cover to replace that one during the gear and diff swap since that is really messed up. I used a bench grinder to put a slight chamfer on the bushing to help align and start them during the press.
