Vland headlights

Well let’s just say it is a good marketing ploy. Got my set a few months ago for a 2014 SS convertible. Did not get the RGB version and my car has factory HID lights which require an adapter harness which came with the new lights.

Spent the first weekend getting access for swap out and trying to figure out why they would not work. I mean, nothing at all would light up except the tun signal lights. The following week was emails back and forth with Next-Gen Speed trying to get help. Also tagged VLAND but they did not help either.

I spent weekend #2 troubleshooting and found the replacement units had shorter connector plug pins as compared to the factory plugs and would not fully engage into the receptacle. Once I modified the plugs for correct pin engagement I got headlamps, hi-beams and of course still had the turn signal but still no DRL. Further troubleshooting found a black/white wire harness inside the VLAND unit which when unplugged from itself allowed DRLs and all other functions to properly work.

Communication with Next-Gen Speed and Vland have not revealed any reasons why or corrective action. As of now all works as advertised with internal plug disconnected. Sorry about rambling in but really needed to get this out there. Hope it helps.

Hey qssz28, glad I found your post, hoping you can shed some light. VLAND is useless with support; I ordered the same lights, arriving next week and I'm trying to make sure the DRLs stay on, once the ignition is on (regardless of day/night). Apparently they made this not "plug-and-play" for "daytime running lights", the bar only illuminates when it's dark or you turn the lights on/off manually? Can you tell me how your DRLs work?

The only thing I can think is to wire the DRL to an ACC 12V source and I'd really rather not do that, it's too risky for me. That or black out the auto light sensor so it thinks it's always dark out, but that might mess with the alarm. VLAND told me, "you just need to swap DRL wires"...They wont tell me which ones or how, they're very unhelpful.

How are you liking the lights? I'm still pretty sketchy on the company/reliability but it absolutely beautifies the gen5 front end.

Thanks!

Plugged the DRL and turn signal into the stock one and everything turned out plug and play.

Thank you so much L6611983! Lights just arrived, still working on getting the fender off; those top 2 middle 10mm are such a pain. Hoping it works out plug-n-play like it did for you, I've seen people have issues. Really appreciate the pic!

I cut the 4 wires for the DRL to put through the rubber dust cap and re- soldered them you don't want to leave that open and let condensation or dust in and for the HID bulbs with ballasts u just used the included grey harness it comes with and cut the wires and only used the green and black wire for low beam since mine was only single filament and left out the high beam wire, later on I can rewire it for high beam also never needed to use it. for the fog light amber switch back you would just tap into the the turn signal wire for that too there are no error codes at all runs like factory OEM. If your not wanting to cut any of the factory harness's and leave it untouched I prefer you get this harness https://camarolights.net/2010-2013-t...rsion-harness/

One thing about this unit in a couple of days running the white DRL the color light bleeds in or flickers blue light I received a defective unit and I am not the only one this has happened to other buyers on Amazon as well. I am within the 30 days to return it but I'm not about to remove the front bumper again a forth time just for that, the color changing music lights work great in sync.

I literally just got done installing the air scoop/Washer reservoir relocate, then started with the lights. I couldn't get the connector from the car to fit onto the new housing connecter; am I missing something? It's a a 2014 LS. $150 for a harness is steep. I found this: https://camarolights.net/2014-2015-6th-gen-drl-harness/
That or I'll DIY. I can use butt connectors and crimp them, right? Can you tell me what color wires to cut?

Man, Sorry about your issues, I've read about horror stories with them, hope I don't get lemonade, I don't wanna have to take off my fender, ever, again.

What bulb are you using? I have the vland D2H but I question the quality, and the ballasts are HUGE, I don't want to have to month those. Can I just use H11, w/o a ballast?

Are you gonna keep trying with them, with all the problems? They look so sweet, I can't wait to get them to turn on!

EDIT: dumb question, do I leave the bag of silica in there?

I used these
YUANZHENG D2H Bulbs Conversion Kit with Ballasts for Projector Headlights Compatible with D2S D2R D4S, 12V 35W 6000K 3200Lm, 2 Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082D9DMXF...ing=UTF8&psc=1

But since you already have the D2H LEDs go ahead and use them, I don't recommend using butt connectors for the wiring over time them fall off. I do not know if the H11 bulb fits but you can try and fit it in and yes you can use a compatible bulb that fits without ballast and see if it seats properly with the green clip. The $150 price for the harness is cheapest one you'll find if your not comfortable modifying the stock wiring. For the bag of silica remove it from there.
It's not much of a problem with the LEDs I'm happy with it and plan on keeping them on even though the blue flicker in it
For you I do recommend getting the harness to retain the high beam also and installation goes smoothly without any problems.

The happylighting app isn't capable of displaying all colors on the pallet this is what I found out between voltages 6.5 and 7.2 it will display orange and yellow and all other colors correctly with resistors, since the app does not do a very good job at it. What did work and make it very stable is to wire a potentiometer along it and control the brightness and color tone much better similar to the sliding dimming dial inside the car but that is a whole different project when I have time to install a switch next to the stock headlight it is a hassle but overall I love them.

Man I cant thank you enough for your help!

So with regards to getting the factory harness to connect to the assembly...how? With all my force I got it to go over the connector on the assembly but, like qssz28 says above, I cannot get it deep enough on to engage the pins. The "DRL" LED Bar and signals work fine, and they look legit. Just gotta get them connected, not sure how, it doesnt want to seat.

Figure I'll either go with your harness or accept the fact that the blub is the DRL at this point. I gotta get my fender back on for work tomorrow. Just need to get them to connect.

And I threw on some H11s, I'd rather go with than the D2H. The H11 would be easier to replace and have a 2 yr warranty/are better made. They're kinda long with the fans but I can get the cover on the assembly, hoping they work and they're not too hot (60W), I dont wanna mess with ballasts.

Your Red/Black scheme looks amazing man! I kinda wish I wouldve gone RBG but I'm cheap. I'm loving your gen6 fender too! Very nice ride.

All you need to do to get the connector to go in firmly break off the edges, then find a large enough heat shrink to go around it if they don't turn on just switch it around for polarity and don't worry they won't burn out there is a protection circuit inside to prevent this. if those bulbs you installed don't close with the back dust cover i would look into getting the smaller low profile ones you wouldn't want dust getting into the projector lens. for the big grey harness you showed i used those 2 short harness's that were supplied in the box cut the black and green wire and soldered those to the black and green pos neg from the factory one your showing and used it on place to connect to the back of the main assembly

Ok, so...these are no where near plug and play then? The DRL thing is frustrating but is there no way I can get them connected without cutting my factory harness/modding the HID harness? Silicone lube and all my might still only gets it 2/3 of the way. I don't want to cut the harness up, I want to be able to return them if they dont work. All the install videos people connect them without issue. This is unbelievable. The scoop install/relocate was so much easier. The H11s do fit with the cover on, albeit snug, I just want the connector to...connect, so I can get my fender back on. At this point I dont even care about the DRL thing, I just want them to work in come capacity.

the only way i can think of to connect them is to use these wire clamps to piggy back on the harness and use that other harness that was included without actually cutting the wires but it's more work, you can probably have them rush delivery the full complete harness i worked on this the next day to i had to return to work but only worked the morning to avoid driving at night without the headlights being hooked up yet

the connector adaptor that was supplied should connect Inline with your stock headlight harness since yours is 2014
