Interested Z/28 Owners this threads for you!
If there are going to alot of new potential owners, ask your questions here.
Can the car be daily driven? - yes, many owners have driven their cars daily after putting street friendly tires on their car. This great improves the ride quality on the street and stops tramlining. I heard it doesn't have A/C? - most of them were ordered with A/C, very few are optionless. Check the production number thread at the top of the forum. What kind of gas milage? 5-20+ depending on your smile per mile meter. What is the up keep cost, like brakes and oil? Oil is about $150ish for the DIY types, that's the 11 quarts and a GM filter, plus lift time if you don't have one. Brakes are roughly $450 per set of front or back pads. Rotors are $1500ish each. If you street drive, the rotors should last the life of the car. Track driving, all depends on how aggressive you are. Transmission and rear end fluid is less than $75 to change at the prescribed intervals. Tires, tires, tires. -expect to pay around $2000 for a good set of street tires that you can still have fun on the track with. More for dedicated track tire sets. Common problems? The CCBs squeal under light breaking and town driving. Seat belt holder strap stitching issues. Suede steering wheels and shifter knobs become smooth after about 15K miles. Wheel arch body work can come detached over time. Zero available from GM. The side quarters get beat by rocks because the front wheels are very wide. The front splitter easily finds curbs and parking blocks.

RE: "Rotors are $120ish each" I think you meant 1500ish each

Can the car be daily driven?
- No. IMO the car was wasn’t made to be driven every day. If you do, you’re a superman. I heard it doesn't have A/C? - It comes with no A/C. There are only two options for the Z. A/C and a crappy radio. What kind of gas mileage? 9 mpg if I drive it. 9 mpg if my grandmother drives it. What is the up keep cost, like brakes and oil? Oil: Mobil 1 5W-30 synthetic motor oil 10q. Walmart $50 Oil Filter: AC Delco UPF-48R. Walmart $15 Manual Transmission: 4.5 qt. Redline D4. $70 Rear Axle: 1 qt. Redline 75w-90 $19 Hydraulic Brake System: DOT 3 AS 400 full synthetic. 3-12oz. Walmart $45 This is what I change out every year DIY at home. Other stuff on needed base: Air filter: AC Delco A3194C. Walmart $75 Cabin filter: AC Delco CF-178. Walmart $25 Brakes pads good luck finding them Rotors good luck finding them I don’t drive too hard so it should last me a while. Tires, tires, tires. About $2000 plus depends what you get. Common problems? -The CCBs squeal under light breaking and town driving. -Seat belt holder strap stitching issues. -Suede steering wheels and shifter knobs become smooth. -Wheel arch bodywork can come detached over time. -The side quarters get beat by rocks because the front wheels are very wide. -The front splitter easily finds curbs and parking blocks. -Trunk open button from the driver side sticks. -I don’t put any chemicals on my dash but it feels really sticky.

I daily mine, and like it as a daily more than any car I've ever owned.
To correct something above; virtually ALL the Z/28s came with AC, very very very few didn't, and those are the unicorns of the bunch. They also only have 1 speaker in order to do the door chime to make it street legal, but no actual radio. GM did a shitty job with marketing, so as a result, the vast majority of people think they didn't come with AC, when in reality, pretty much everyone ordered theirs with AC. There are also viable replacements for pads and rotors if you want to maintain the rotors for later, or just need replacements. G-Loc claims their CCB pads will work with the stock rotors. Girodisc makes replacement pads and rotors, but it would be swapping to iron. For daily driving, probably would result in less squeal. |
