FYI: They've been popping in and out with availability this week. There were 2 for sale yesterday. So, I saved the 285/35/20 page and refresh it a few times a day.

Good News: Price down to 109 a tire! Bad News: Not available this morning. lol

Here's the product page I saved if you want to try checking in during the day.

That would be great. Been a long wait...

I should probably clarify that people trying to be competitive in Cam-C typically run a larger tire. Not everyone but many in competitive regions, etc. They usually run an 18 or 19.

The easy go-to has been a 19-inch wheel, 11 inches wide, from makers like Apex or Forgestar or Forgeline running a 305/30/19 BFG Rivals 1.5, or Yokos, or the RE-71.

The 18 wheels require some grinding, etc., to fit.

I only autocross once or twice a summer, so I use the 285 stock size RE-71 as my street tire in the warm weather months and as the autox tire.

Appreciate that info. I will be doing the autox stuff as more of a hobby than anything else. I still haven't 100% committed to competing next year or just continuing with the practice events that are held here.

Perfect! You can run as Novice for a long time. Buying more wheels/tires really adds up especially if you are not worried about winning!

So far I love my Nankang NS2R in 285/35/20 square.
Decent road course tire. I’ve only done 1 AX course. I couldn’t figure out where the tire pressure needed to be.

Best price here.

PS-buy a second set of 1LE wheels.
2014-2020 I believe are all the same dimensions and offsets.

I'm current dominating my class in my local auto-x club. Here's where I'm standing, I'm on top of D-class: https://axwaresystems.com/axorm/file...st__points.htm Two years ago I was solidly mid-pack out of a regular 20 cars or so, then in the winter of 2019 I threw on Re-71s. Finished 3rd in class at the end of the 2020 season, and am kinda crushing everyone else this season. Tires were a huge part of that.

OEM G2s are terrible Auto-X tires. Track days they are great, they need a LOT of heat to work correctly, but they suck at Auto-X. R888s aren't hot either. Whoever recommended the all-season Bridgestones is just wrong on an entirely different level. Those things are hot trash (I had a set that I literally threw out after a few thousand miles because of how absolutely terrible they were). Pilot Sport 4S' aren't terrible, but definitely aren't RE-71s.

As far as the replacement, the RE-71S ... a few of us have called Bridgestone they have no plans to EVER release that tire to the US market. Additionally, its an enduro tire and not built for Auto-X.

It's looking like there going to be three competitive tires in the 200 treadwear category for next season, the Nankang CR1, the Falken RT660, and the Yokohama Advan A052. I looked, and since I too am running on OEM wheels, the only thing one of those three tires made in our size is the A052. This isn't a bad thing, since it's the fastest tire out there right now. But the wear is kind of absurd and they're $1600 a set.

I'm topped out at -1.9 degrees of camber in the front, and -1.5 in the rear. Camber plates are going up front this winter in anticipation of running A052 on the hopes that they'll last one whole season (for the record, RE-71s lasted me two full seasons, approximately 150 runs + daily driving duties during the season). The rears I'm just going to end up chewing through I'm sure.

The smart thing to do is to pull the trigger on forged 19" or even better, 18" wheels if they clear the C7 Z06 brakes I've got which opens me up to more tire choices as well as makes the tires a lot cheaper. That's an additional $4K minimum though and I'll still need new tires. The wife will not be ecstatic.

  • Driving Nannies: If I'm that far out of shape on the street, something has gone terribly wrong and by all means Mr. Computer man, come and get me.
  • G2s: Rock throwing is like like a tramp stamp; although problematic, it's a sign of good things to come.

I am so sad about the Supercar G2 not being available in the 1LE and ZL1 sizes anymore. What are the differences between The G2 and G3?
Does the G3 take a while to heat up as well? Are they not good for auto-x also?

From some of the threads I've read, the G3's still take some time to warm up but don't fall off as fast as the G2's did supposedly?

AutoX tires are a special breed. They are essentially very close to qualifiers (racing tires that teams use for 2, 3 laps max to set a very quick time for qualifying).

They don't need a lot of heat to work which is what makes them so good at AutoX since you sit still, do 1 minute of driving, then sit in line again for 10 minutes. Visit a local AutoX and see what everyone is running, there's only a few good AutoX tires and almost everyone is running them.

In my local club, of the fast/competitive guys, we have 5% of the field on slicks, +65% on RE-71Rs, 20% on Advan A052, and for the rest are on various other tires, usually more track-oriented tires as many of these guys track as well but don't bother switching to dedicated autox tires.

Thanks for the response, I never heard or felt that the G2 fall off but good to know, I guess I am just not pushing too hard lol

Thanks for your input, I have never done an auto-x but hopefully someday. You do track days as well, right?
PS
love your "thoughts on some things"
