2nd track day with the 1LE
Hey guys, just did my 2nd track day with my 2014 1LE and have a couple thoughts and questions. My car is stock suspension wise with long tube headers and a tune. I'm running Bridgestone RE71 tires (140 treadwear) The car was great for the most part with the exception of the brakes and a strange squealing sound that surfaced later in the day. The noise seemed to come on between 4500 and 5000 RPM when I was accelerating down the straight at full throttle. Almost sounded like brakes make when they are down to the wear indicators, but I was not on the brakes and the sound was not there when I was on the brakes. The other thing was after the 5th run, when I came in smoke was rolling off my front right rotor(obviously over heated the front brakes) I could see some scoring on the rotor. Any advice on what that noise could be and recommendations for a good rotor/pad upgrade would be appreciated. I'm not a track rat, just do a couple events per year and I did run with traction control and stability control off. Thanks !

Thanks, for that reply. That actually crossed my mind, could it just need tightening ? Car only has 14k miles on it, wouldn't think I'd need to replace it already

Check the pads too.
May be worn worn further then expected. I wore my inner drivers side down past warning bar mark almost to the bracket/backing. Slight score on the rotor. I got lucky and heard it last 2 laps of 3rd session and shut it down loosing out last 2 sessions. Pads were only 1 track day and like 1,500 street miles. |

I ended up replacing with another set of the Brembo Ferodo HP1000.
But its time to upgrade. Im ordering the Raybestos ST43 F & R for the track. Ill use the Brembo Ferodo HP1000 for street. I do like the Brembos. |

If your serious about tracking and braking power look into the ZL1 front brake upgrade.
There is a long thread on here about that. Also brake ducts will help alot. If you can find a set of Z28 brake ducts that would help, Brake fluid would be another suggestion. You posted in the 1LE form which is a great place but you should check out the Road Race form as well. Good luck and enjoy. Craig

Well worth it, especially if you frequent a fast track like I do. A member here also suggested these titanium shims: https://knsbrakes.com/c/car-series/1...itanium+Shims+ They keep the heat off the calipers so you can push the pads harder. My pads were literally on fire at the end of my session and I lost little brake feel. Also, brake cooling is a big help. I put together my own kit: ![]() ![]()
