If you buy the car from a dealer that is located in a State that requires a front license plate, then the mounting bracket for the front plate will come inside the trunk. During prep, your dealer would normally install this....which in this case would require drilling holes into your front bumper and attaching the mounting bracket.

I would suggest you let your dealer know very clearly that you do not want the bracket installed.

I believe it's actually the dealer who checks the box on whether to include the mounting bracket or not. When we were entering the order he asked me if I wanted it or not... then proceeded to tell he that it would just be in the trunk and they would not install it.

I'm not sure, but I think there was a small fee to include it. Like 10 bucks. I'll ask him about that again.

In BC the plate mount will come in the car at N/C. It will be mounted as part of PDI unless you can talk the dealer out of it! They will quote regulations that require it for provincial registration.

In Alberta where a front plate is not required the mount can be ordered for a charge of 15.00 (CAN).

With the budget constraint of many states I think they should look at this policy. If they only required one plate the money the save should be huge. Even if the fees did not drop, they could make up some revenue.

If you're someplace that requires a front plate you'll likely get a ticket - just a matter of when. Tell your dealer you've ordered one of the pop-up plate brackets and therefore don't want it installed. I'm still trying to confirm that it actually does come in the trunk and then dealer installed during PDI (when the "front plate mounting provisions" is checked on the order). I know some cars come from the factory with it mounted - others do not. The current Vettes do not - and believe it or not, they come from the facotry with a front plate bracket with 2-sided tape; which stays on for all of 2 weeks. So the dealers here usually rivet them on. But most will not mount it if you ask them to. If your salesperson doesn't agree to it talk to the manager. Tell them it would be silly to loose an order and have bad word on the street over something this small.

Do they actually drill holes in the bumper or does the bracket somehow clip on the back edge of the bunper? Anyone know? I plan on removing it. Just hoping there are no holes in the bumper.

GM uses pop rivets on later models. My dealer expects me to provide an alternate OR he will be required to mount it.

I live in NY and am simply not going to put one on. This is going to be a warm dry Sundays only in the summer kinda car so the chances of a cop spotting it are much slimmer than a daily driver.

They drill holes, 4 of them I'm going to bring 4 suction cups and super glue just in case my dealer get's all uppity and want to follow the rules . Super glue is to hold the suction cups to the plate bracket.
