I'm chasing down what sounds like an air leak and I found this empty threaded hole while digging around. Any idea what it's for and what should be there? It's right behind the bypass valve actuator.

That hole is not the leak, still not sure what it's for. The leak appears to be the bypass actuator.

I have the same empty bolt hole. I asked Jannetty about it when I was doing my install they said it's nothing to worry about they all have them. No its not your leak. The old style diaphragm inside the actuator is know to crack/leak. There is an updated heavier duty one.

Sounds like you found it, but it could be the diaphragm or spring in the bypass actuator. I had the diaphragm fail in mine, had to buy a new one from Whipple. I bought the whole actuator, not just the diaphragm. You can test it by having someone watch the actuator and see if it moves properly when you give it gas.

I ordered a new actuator from Whipple last night. The diaphragm is definitely bad, even though I could see it moving it wouldn't hold vacuum at all when tested off the car.
