Biggest problem with gt500 too me is traction they spin way too much . It would take a great driver and experience with that car to make good track times my camaro is much easier to handle even upgraded like it is

Either way your getting a heck of a car. Depreciation will hurt less on the GT500. The new car thing with the camaro is a plus. Go drive them both and see which one stirs your soul!

I must say, I have not seen one single V6 or GT badged or dressed up like a GT500. I see quite a few V6's that have the GT back bumper and dual pipes. I think the cost of dressing up an S197 V6 or GT to look like a GT500 would far outweigh the personal benefits that somebody might gain from this.

Here is my reasoning:
I can pick them both up for around the same price, all the SS's I see are going for 36-38 K and I can pick up a used GT500 with 7000 miles for 37000 easy, less if I haggle them down.
As far as the looks go I am indifferent, they both look pretty good.

Performance: GT500 bone stock is a bit faster, I think MMFF ran a best of 12.2 with a stock one but typical times are mid-high 12's.
I don't like to get into the mod vs mod arguement but if you get a new pulley and tune for the GT500 you can easily gain 100 hp for around 1000 dollars, also it's engine is all forged steel bottom end.

The only advantage I can think of for the camaro is that I can get a brand spankin new car for the same price.

Any input?

If your budget is 36k, I'd get the Camaro. Much cooler than the old GT500 which looks more and more dated with the new Stang's gimping around. Go customize your car, brand new, all under warranty, get exactly what you want instead of picking up some guy's old toy which he beat on every time he drove it.

Camaro - fast, good looking, good gas mileage, IRS, head turner, will help Camaro numbers

GT500 - very fast (stock for stock) a few ticks faster than the Camaro SS, more mod friendly, may be used as a paper weight

Verdict - Well, I am biased - go for the Camaro SS

A lot of people that purchase the GT500's aren't really concerned with how it does on a road course. They want a car that hauls ass in a straight line. Back in 02 and 03 the Cobra had the IRS and most people that modded them got rid of that because of bad wheel hop and the potential damage it could cause to the rear end. IRS is great depending on what you value most.

Felt the same way. The 06-09's look good, but are looking old right now.

Also, if you're financing, the difference in rates between a used car loan and a new car loan can add up, particularly if you're financing over 5 years.

This thread cracks me up,guy wants to know what Camaro owners opinion are and all the Mustang guys pop up. Buy a Mustang one less Camaro on the road. Good for both groups.

I'm biased because I own a Camaro, but the GT500 is a good car. Before you make your decision, check out this thread from a current and former GT500 owner.

I was going to get a Camaro RS/SS cyber-grey w/ black stripes until I heard the Supercharge whine of the GT500.

You are on a Camaro forum so most are gonna say Camaro. If you were on the GT500 forum they would mostly say GT500.

You are going to have to test drive them both. Make a pro-con list and go from there. The GT500 is my daily driver and I don't mind the manual at all. If you do mind a manual get the Camaro hands down the auto is a good tranny and the paddles shifters are fun.

Go to both dealers and let them know you are serious and tell them what other cars you are looking at. The GT500 doesn't have a sunroof but, a killer Nav system. The hids on the 2009 GT500 seem just like projectors but, the Camaro actually has them. The Gt500 has a really good sound system both the 500watt and 1000watt are awesome. I opted for the GPS so I only got the 500watt system which is plenty. Again you need to test drive the cars yourself. You get Brembo calipers all around on the camaro but, only front on the GT500.
