its been fun. Camaro finally sold
its been fun. Camaro finally sold 4600$, it has taken a while to sell, it kept breaking while sitting. I've put 90 miles on the car in 4 months
both passenger and driver seat broke would not move forward or back. the transmission I just had repaired back when I stopped driving it. BROKE 2end gear again! i haven't driven the car more then to putt-putt around the block once a week. went to actually drive it across the county and 2end gear is gone.......nothing happens when in second now. no grind no go nothing its just gone then the keyfob board fried and stranded me for 8 hours 50 miles from home ![]() the a seal on one of the tail perished so its full of water and no longer works and I reached a point yesterday where I sat there looking in to the void for 30 min, while I tried to contemplate how, I haven't even driven you how the hell does it keep breaking. finally after hours and hours of negotiation with WeBuyCars we found one person in there dealer network who would buy it. Carvania turned it down stating they have a influx nation wide of vehicles using the aisin AY6 all broken or damaged in a way and will not buy cars with them. and it became apparent after numerous turn down for the same reason transmissions proven unreliable in TRD tundras Camaro's and other Toyotas that used the AY6.....4 months of trying to get rid of this dumpster fire money pit and finally im free of that nightmare car. I'm not a superstitious man I don't believe in UFO's big foot or non of this horror ghost shit....... but I 100% believe my car was cursed from berth and a unfortunate lemon out of the gate. as the saying goes not my monkey not my problem anymore Thanks for all the help over the years, useful insight, threads on (how twos) and DIY. or even diagnosing what the problem is. hell even some of the folks who are dicks(all in good fun of course) ill miss them to. really wish it hadn't worked out how it did. ![]() Last picture taken 11/15/2020 shitty truck stop hotel El Paso Texas( i use to stay at when trucking) 9pm see yawl in another life

Hey, it happens but hopefully it won't discourage you from Camaros in general. I bought a 1997 Camaro Z28 with the stupid LT1 and the thing almost broke me, and worst, almost turned me to the dark side - I started looking at Mustangs during that time. I finally found a sympathetic dealership to take it in for trade on a recovered stolen LS1 (I didn't have the heart to pawn it off on someone unless they knew exactly what they were getting into) and it was the total opposite experience - just a great car overall. I sold that and now have a SS which has been bulletproof - mainly because I'm not screwing around with it too much mechanically. So out of the four Camaros that I've had (also had a 1997 V6 which was also trouble-free), only one was a dud. Hopefully if you hop back on the Camaro wagon, it will be a better experience.

Sorry to hear about your trouble but all cars can and will have troubles as they age. Especially today's insanely complicated cars. My wifes v6 Camaro @120k is starting to get a bad engine rattle at start up. Still runs ok but obviously something is up with it and its been maintained religiously. Its a car, something is going to break. Its been like this since the beginning of time. Your next car will do the same. Good Luck

So what was the cars history?
Bought new? Bought used 5/6 years old? Mileage? Lots of unanswered questions/ blanks in the story. Yes I agree the V6 manual trans isn't as robust as the TR6060

Think car troubles are bad? I woke up this morning to a broken water pipe behind the washer in the wall! Such a nice way to spend XMAS trying to find a plumber without any water............count your blessings.

I bought my 5th gen with less then 23,000 miles. 3erd owner. 5years ago....Red flag 1 I'm now it's 3erd owner why are the miles so low. Red flag 2 3 days on to ownership check engine evap system failure. 600$ repair. Red flag 3 never went in to 2end smooth. Red flag 4 me the new owner being so excited to get my 1st loan 3% interest on a car I wanted to own really bad for years and worked really hard 100 hours a week for 2 years to earn the money to buy it while the shit Audi A4 I had was taking money for repairs every month It was a battle. But finally I thought I got it. And I won't have to worry about a car problems for a few years. First year ownership EVAP system went bad the headlights leaked water and replace the whole housings to spider projectors. Then the tail lights had wiring problems and would hyper flash even though there's not LED bulbs and it would do it at random. Then my Camaro in the same year have been hit and run three times. Second year of ownership I had to deal with problems with the rear diff making noise when making slow left hand turns you could hear a rumble. Turns out somebody had been in the rear end before and put a set of shorter ratios back there. So that's great I can be in sixth gear and do 36 mph without the car bucking woohoo. That affect also changed the top speed down to 108 mph with the limiter. that also why my MPG sucked ass. at 80 MPH id be over 3000rpm in 6th. This is right around when I started to suspect that I think the second owner didn't know how to drive or operate a manual trans. And may have damaged something internally and ditched the vehicle while the problem was minor enough to be ignored on a trade-in I just have no clue that's when the illusion of having something I wanted for so long and worked really hard to get was a complete loss of money. And at that point I just started driving the car quit washing it quit caring about anything just oil changes brakes tire change that's it. Because I knew at this point I had bought a money pit and I'm stuck with it until it's paid off. When it came time to sell every place I took it to for inspection to try and sell it they came back with outside the engine which is perfect runs great there's no problems on it at all to the transmission the rear diff now grinding and most the driveline needed a lot of work and the car was mechanically totaled on a repair side. That's when I also found out that the trade school I went to in 2020 was a sham so my AWS certs for welding and my certificate of completion for trade school or void. So now I'm out of work and I'm 70 grand in the hole and that's combining the $25,000 loss for schooling and the I think 25,000 in total for the car which was 14.5k after the money I put down on it. And then the repair cost just to keep the transmission going long enough to pay it off and then sell it. Covid is been a really bad year for me and I've literally lost everything at this point no car no job no certs. Financially ruined in every way I can think. And back living with mom and dad at 35. So I got 4600$ or what I believe would be the part out value on the car. In short it was just a really shit car. And I'll never know if the 2 old owners ditched it because of the problems or if owner 2 flogged the trans to death and I was left the aftermath What I can be sure of 100% is for 4600$ my next car will be 15-20+ years old 4 banger or a old inline 5 turbo diesel Mercedes (my start on working on cars was Mercedes) it's why I hate working on cars. done with holidays sorry for late reply's Last edited by riozlander; 01-02-2022 at 02:53 PM. |

![]() id say its destroyed my perception of the 5th gen Camaro and newer camaros. in my eyes the 5th gen before i owned mine was unobtainium. it looks good sounds good both V6 and V8 make really good fun power. and again its just a handsome brut of car. I went in blinded with the fan boy shades on full display. so for it to go belly up so badly... if i got another 5th gen id be a V8. id prob pay out the nose for a full inspection before pulling the trigger again. and even then it would be a 5th gen from some one i knew personally and the full history of the cars ownership. next cars I get for sure is going to be a crappy econo box with 200k+ miles and bad paint so im just gonna paint stirp it and rat it out with rust and mad max shit and just drive it tell the wheels fly off in a fireball. i have some very stupid mods I've always wanted to do to a crappy car daily driver so now's my chance ![]() maybe do a zombie virus car. |

All brands have lemons. I have a SS I bought as a 3 year old 36,000 lease return after seeing the 6th gens were hideous. Bone stock. Zero mechanical problems, just shitty Chevy dealer and worthless gm customer “service”. Love my car but I’ll never buy one again although I do like Corvettes. Wife doesn’t though, so probably back to Porsche. All the new stuff is crap. BMW & Mercedes fall apart in 5-6 years or bankrupt you. Maybe I’ll go Acura or Lexus.
