I have a gas leak on around the fuel pump o ring or the line it self what's the easiest way to do this drop the tank or try cutting it from the top with metal cutting shears?

I'd cut it and use an air nibbler, small nips, etc. Nothing sparking for sure.
Plenty of videos on how to do it.

I really enjoy this forum and the people in it........but sometimes I cringe and shake my head at some of the stuff people do. Sure it's harder to do things the right way but aren't these cars your baby? Still smh over this one.......

I agree that I don't know I would pursue cutting a hole over a leak, but I understand doing it for those that are in a constant state of modification.

I understand not everyone has access to a lift and doing this on jack stands would be difficult at best, but really the only thing that has to be removed is the exhaust and driveshaft. After that it's a piece of cake to get the tank out especially if its close to empty. There's just something in me that wont allow me to just start cutting sheet metal to access something...puts me in mind of what a junk yard mechanic would do.

Really just doing what GM should have done to start with. Fuel pumps should be accessible without removing a tank.

very true...maybe get a piece of metal 1 inch bigger all around and screw it in with sheet metal screws to give access in 15 more years when you arent so spry.my sons del sol had a nice little access hole from the factory, but GM engineers dont plan that far ahead.

I drilled in in the four corners to get the shears started but man was it dicey. The corner closest to the driver seat has very little room between the metal and the tank.

I'll try that drilling the corners.

Yeah, it’s very close. Need to use some sort of stop on the drill bit to keep from going through and into the tank.

Another way to do it can I just hold the frame up with jack stands on the outer jack points and drop the back frame?

The GM engineers made some of this stuff difficult on purpose so Average Joe would take it in and get hit with 2K repair bill. Re-enginer the damn thing and do it like it should be. 👍
