Hope they get it straightened out for you.
I just got mine back yesterday, the diagnosis was loose electrical connections on the PS unit. Granted it's only been 24 hours and a half a dozen start/stops, but so far so good. |

Well, I'm still having power steering failure, this will make the third time, the car is back at the dealer. It happened again Saturday morning on my way to work. I just had picked the car up on Thrusday after they (dealer) replaced the module and steering gear. I've been really patient cause I'm a mechanic myself and do understand that electrical can sometimes be a nightmare, but with that said I'm getting unhappy. Will post again once I find something out.

Check your wheel speed sensors...
I heard that if one of these are loose they can cause PS issues.

Man, that sucks....As many others have said, GM needs to figure out WTF is going on because steering assist failure is total bullshit and should not be allowed to occur as if it were some non-critical sub-system component.

Well I've had the car back now for about 2.5 weeks and the steering has not failed again. The problem I'm having now is that it does not feel the same, it feel as tho I need to use more effort to turn the wheel. I really need to drive another ZL1 to compare. Also does the SS have the same steering system?

Can you feel a difference in effort required between touring and sport modes?

I know this post is old and hoping some of you guys can pick it back up. Did a full LSA swap, headers, etc. on a 2015 Camaro SS and loe and behold, getting the infamous service power steering crap after I race or do a pull on the highway. I have checked connections. After the car cools off a bit it starts working just fine and doesn't cut out again until another pull...warranty is out the window so I need real world resolution. I am no dummy and can fix a lot of stuff myself

It's a real long shot, but the original steering issues were quite often caused by a bad ground. Sometimes people would move the ground cable on the drivers side front fender when they installed a cai there, and moved the ground to another location that didn't make good connection with the body/chassis.
Knowing the PS is sensitive to voltage/ground, any chance that your battery voltage is dropping a bit during the hard pull till your alternator can charge it afterwards? |

I rerouted the ground again and I know it's making good contact. Starting to think the heat from the headers is causing it.

The guys at ADM are 100% on point. The ground is too long and too thin.
My power steering has gone out multiple times while driving. I usually just disconnect and reconnect the ground and get on my way. However when it’s wet outside it happens more often, driving home in a rain the power steering kept going out at 70mph while I’m hydroplaning puddles on the highway. I had to pull over, turn the car off, and dry off the ground to get back on the road. 3 times I did this on the same trip. I got home and cut that POS ground off and ran some larger gauge on a shorter path. Problem solved. Good luck. |
