lets just say it was working, parked it overnight, and the next morning the freon had all leaked out.i wont refill it unless its been fixed, but really unsure if i should fix it and keep it or just say screw it and drive the wifes honda.we are both retired so two cars may be a luxury at this point.im wondering if i will be doing this again in 5 years,if so,is it worth it?

Sell it. Right now is the best time to sell. You're going to get top dollar for it now, might not get as much for it later when the market settles. Unless you want to keep it of course.

Windshields - Safelite

2010 Caddy CTS wagon, had the roof replaced (another story but good!) they pulled and reinstalled the windshield. The Caddy windshield has a small bonded seal down each side and across the top. When they pulled the windshield they delaminated the seal a little bit in the middle. It started leaking. At the body shop I had the choice to put in a new piece of glass, if they broke it taking it out I had to buy it. They gave me a stupid price for a new glass so put the old one back in right.

So I talked to the body shop, they use an outside glass company, same stupid price for new glass but they’ll pull it out and reseal it. I said you already did that and it leaks.

So I called Safelite.

They came to my house, perfect replacement job, lifetime warranty - it was $200 less than what the other guys priced the glass for.

I’m going to get them to put a new windshield in my 2010 SS maybe next year to get rid of the sandblasting thats collected in the so far 120K. It’ll be about $450.

Safelite has my vote right now.

the damn windshield is full of little pits.its too bad i cant get safelite to pull it,let the dealer fix the evap, then replace with a new one,but that sounds like its kind of fraudulent.florida insurance covers some replacements, but it sounds kind of iffy to me.

See, this is why I never touch my AC; that's what windows are for. The ONLY time I turn it on is when my wife is in the car and it's raining (or I hit the highway and she hates how fast I drive).

Of course, I live in Indiana where the summers are much more moderate, or at least used to be. I can get away with the windows-only option. Anyway, you could still get top dollar on your car from a northern buyer (someone up north like me who could give a falling fig about AC).

Sell the Camaro and share the wifes Honda?
Cool.
No, seriously don't feel guilty.
Enjoy the unicorn air freshener.
Maybe go with her and get a manny petty.
Hey, you gave up the cool kid ride and saved 2K.

Yeah, I'm pointing and laughing.

2400 dollar repair on a 17k car is a hard pill to swallow. I would probably take the check and run with it too, but I'm sure in my case it would find it's way to another project.

im looking at it like this .for that price i can hope i wont have that problem again.if i take the check either we are down to one car and prices on lightly used cars are crazy right now.it appears many new cars were designed to make evaporator repair a nightmare including challengers so selling my camaro that still looks and drives like new isnt getting me anywhere.unless something changes im probably going to just raid the bank account and get it done.

I’m on my third evaporator replacement

I think before I shelled out 2k, as was suggested, I would look for someone to recharge it and add a sealant. What's the worst that can happen?
