I was really shocked looking at the prices for low mileage 4th Gen's. There was a 02 WS6 sold for 50k. I did not think theyd reach that price so soon.
Still here are deals to be had. First gen Firebirds are still going for 20 to 30k which to me is surprising given how much more rare they are than Camaros. Then again most of them aren't original engines. |

I looked too after my comment. I won't be buying one anytime soon.

I remember looking at a Pantera in 1990 just after I got back from Winterpeg.
They were asking for $20k. I didn't have a garage for it so I passed and bought a 1980 Z/28

I know the feeling. I passed on a ‘63 split window at $45k about 10 years ago. Passed is probably too strong a word. I hesitated long enough that it got snapped up before I had made up my mind.

I got $21K for the Pantera and $70k for the Boss9. A nice original or professionally restored Boss was bringing around $180k at the time. What killed mine is that it was missing the smog equipment, oem air cleaner housing and snout and miscellaneous other Boss9 peculiar parts. Every single component attached to the motor was unique e.g. carb, water pump, fan, fuel pump, distributor, every single line and hose. The prices these parts will bring was insane in 2005. I can't imagine what it's like now. I consulted Bob Perkins, the undisputed Boss Mustang guru regarding what it would take for my car to bring $175k. He replied "$100k worth of parts that you could easily haul in a wheelbarrow".

Those GT350R HE prices are unbelievable. Who would possibly pay that much for one of those, much less 3 of them around the same price? BaT auctions are crazy.

I'm sure that '80 Z28 proved to be far more reliable than a Pantera. The cooling system was woefully inadequate, everytime you got stopped at a red light, you prayed that you would make it thru in one cycle. In stop and go traffic, you were hosed, had to pull to the shoulder and shut it down. Don't think you're going anywhere anytime soon either, the damn starter would be too hot to crank it for at least an hour. In addition to the cooling issues, I was always chasing electrical gremlins. In spite of all its problems, I have to admit that I really enjoyed that car

Use Classic.com to see what has sold, or been listed for sale, in the past five years. Uses “Hagerty Value Tool” and NADAguide.com to get valuations based on condition range. I had intended to buy a classic muscle car again within the next three years. I decided to move that up before I got completely priced out of the market and ended up buying this 1970 Trans Am RAIII 4-speed optioned with the performance 12-bolt axle and M21 trans. Number’s matching engine, trans and axle! I’ve been into gen2 Trans Ams since I was 13 and did a complete subframe off, nut and bolt, restoration on a 76 Bandit (Y82) 455, 4-speed in the 90s (some photos are in my profile). I know gen2 TAs well and am thrilled to be back with one from the muscle peak of 1970. should be here next week.

The styling is from when the great Bill Mitchell was GM’s Vice President of Design and it is said the he overruled designer Bill Porter on many of the elements that are exclusive to the Trans Am. …including the shaker scoop. The 70 is interesting amongst the gen2 because is has many mechanical and interior items that were only seen that year.
