PEASE HELP: Time chain issue

I have a 2011 camaro v6 and i got the dreaded p0008 time chain issue. The check engine light came on and i failed inspection. What can I do about it? I heard fixing this is a problem. I went to 2 different mechanics and they both told me to just not worry about it but i think i have to fix this. However i am not in the greatest financial place right now to cough up this much money. Any Chevy representatives can help? Isnt there a warranty that can take care of this ? I remember going to pep boys before for this issue where they actually fixed a bunch of stuff (besides this) and told me Chevy would fix this themselves under warranty. What do i do?

I live in NJ.

What about if I get it fixed from outside the dealer? How much would it be?

Also is it necessary to change? I took it to 2 different shops and they said they don’t do that but also said I don’t really need to change it . It won’t affect the car and it is fine to drive. So I am wondering if it’s safe to ignore the time chain issue.

What's your mileage? Do you know the service history of the car? Always kept the engine oil topped up? These engines are known to burn a fair bit of oil. I typically do an oil change at ~6000km (3750 miles) and I always get about a liter/quart less than what I put in (usually add a bit extra so that the level is always within the marks on the dip stick). If the oil has been maintained properly and the mileage isn't too high you may be ok... maybe. If the timing chain stretches too much or breaks the engine will likely be toast.

I am about 60k miles on it. I don’t drive much (maybe once a week etc). I do oil change in a normal timely fashion.

it will eventually go reduced power and be almost undriveable but 60k is low mileage for this issue. goto 5.45 of this video.

Be careful buying that Cloyes kit, lots of reports of broken off bolts using that kit. I'd buy everything from the dealer. I'd also reuse all the bolts no matter what anyone tells you otherwise.

You have a check engine light, so gotta fix it even if you want to get rid of the car.

Bite the bullet and take it to your dealer. After using quality parts, only synthetic oil, and no more than 5000 miles between changes you wont have this problem again. It will be money well spent.
