Auto camaro drivers, do we get better gas mileage if we use the paddle shifters?

Bump. That's a good question. I would imagine that controlling gear switching when you find if appropriate instead of a computer doing it for you, would save gas in some cases. I don't think it would be a drastic difference. I just got my VIN friday....any day now!

Don't know but it's a heck of a lot more fun.....except while turning from a stop. I have a heck of a time keeping track of that button on the wheel LOL.

You definitely have to plan for turns. I find myself shifting back into D in order to avoid a mess.

I tried this and the answer is no. The computer will often not let you shift until after 2500 RPM but in drive you will see that it often shifts right at 2000. But yes, it is fun.

No way! You can't take it easy with paddles . It's way too aggressive compared to D, at least in my "normal" driving. For the people shifting in a turn, why? Don't you want to be in 2nd or 3rd in a turn and shift as you are exiting?

Agreed, I was driving with the shifters all the time at the beginning but between the paddles moving with the wheel making shifting more difficult, the big drag when dropping to 1st (from 2nd no less) and worst of all the annoying way it'll autoshift before I'm ready when getting on it, it's just not worth a lot of effort.

And no, didn't notice any improvement in gas milage.....though it does help with the lugging caused by the AFM so it's does feel a lot better for straight-away/easy driving.

I doubt it will increase mpg, I believe the computer will actually get better mpg than most using paddle shifters. And like "V6 and proud" commented above, even when paddle shifting, the computer still does not allow certain things, like shifting into 1st while going 80mph or shifting into 6th while going 10mph. Having said that, it is fun sometimes, but 99% of the time I let the ole computer do what I paid it to do.

I get way better mpg when in auto mode, but I drive in manual mode most of the time because it is much more fun. I never have trouble shifting in a corner, unless your in 1st there are enough rpm's to get around any corner without shifting.
