Temporarily misplaced. The car was located and has been constructively placed.....I think he's still waiting for the car to be emptied.

Railcars do get misplaced and lost here and there. I happens were the conductor will drop a cut of cars off on the wrong track, or they grab 11 cars instead of 10 and the 11th car ends up going to the wrong destination. Most rail yards are pretty fluid and cars don't sit for too long unless they are in storage tracks. Rail cars are actually easy to find because they all use the A.E.I. system. That is Automatic Equipment Identification. Each and every railcar and Locomotive will have one mounted one each side. They are a little rectangle box about the size of TV remote control that is programmed with all the car information on it kinda like a VIN#. These tags are read by scanners that emit radio waves that bounce the information from these tags the same as you would scan an ID chip in your dog. These scanners are placed strategically along rail routes and at the entrance and exits to all yards, major junctions and interchanges between different railroads. So if they ever lost a car they can always see which scanner it passed last and it will be somewhere near by!

On a search and rescue mission. Are you really an AF Pilot or do you just play one on C5?

Good post Heavy D. I used to schedule rail cars for a refining company. You wouldn't believe how frequently the RR's lose railcars. I was in the business when they started implimenting the the electronic spotters. It will be found when the train enters its next dispo. Give it a few days. Your car isn't lost. The rail cars have a unique alfanumeric ID stenciled on it that matches its shipping bill of lading, which has it final disposition on it. The guys in the yard brake and build trains by the car ID number, so they have to find it. The tracking can only go blind between stops, and those trains make plenty of stops in which the cars can be found.
