I'm just of average height and weight, and have no super car destroying powers, but I'll assume there was at least one other person that broke a key or it wouldn't have been a recall. Just one of the unlucky ones I guess. It didn't take much of a bump to snap it off in there.

What happened if I remember correctly on this recall is that some unlucky person bumped the fob/key in its original config and it "shut the car off", locked the wheel and caused an accident. That is why the recall was being pushed, not a broken key... I believe..

Last time I was in for something with that car I had to sign a paper acknowledging that there was a recall and I refused to have it done. On a somewhat related topic, my fob finally kicked the bucket and fell apart and I did the fob upgrade.

Straight off the recall bulletin, and someone said they were told the recall is over.....recalls never end!
Condition General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in all 2010-2014 model year Chevrolet Camaro vehicles. There is a risk, under certain conditions, that some drivers may bump the ignition key with their knee and unintentionally move the key away from the run position. If this occurs, engine power, and power braking will be affected and power steering may be affected, increasing the risk of a crash. The timing of the key movement out of the run position, relative to the activation of the sensing algorithm of the crash event, may result in the airbags not deploying, increasing the potential for occupant injury in certain kinds of crashes. Until the recall has been performed, it is very important that drivers adjust their seat and steering column to allow clearance between their knee and the ignition key. Correction Dealers are to remove the key blade from the original flip key/RKE transmitter assemblies provided with the vehicle, and provide two new keys and two key rings per key. |

https://a.co/d/cR9UO4d This is just a shell. I swapped all the internals. I took off the chevy symbol and glued it back. The other fob basically has to be demolished to get it open. And don't over tighten the screws at the bottom of the new fob or the panic button will go off.

I can tell there are a lot of people who don't want the recall done. I did the recall to my own car, and when I did I neglected to remove the blades from the remote. So I ended up with 4 keys that would start my car.
Something you need to keep in mind, whenever you present your car to any GM dealer for service (even a oil change) Federal law requires us to complete any open safety recalls before returning the vehicle to the customer. |
