Regarding getting the blade cut. Is this something your typical locksmith can do or do I need to take it somewhere special to get it cut?

My local dealer uses the local lock smith. The laser cut keys are harder to get cut than the old keys.

If you have a Batteries + near you, they can laser cut your key. I used them to cut my new switchblade keys and everything worked perfectly.

Something you need to keep in mind, whenever you present your car to any GM dealer for service (even a oil change) Federal law requires us to complete any open safety recalls before returning the vehicle to the customer.
Question that. GM nor the dealer own your car. I'de like to see that law.

Key Cut

Will any dealer cut the key on my new GM switchblade? What do they charge just to cut the key? My 2011 came with a keyless switchblade and a separate key.

My dealer charged me $45 Canadian to cut two new keys.

I swapped the electronics from the old key fobs into some new 4 button GMC Terrain key fobs that I picked up on eBay for $20.
