GFX front lip woes
I'm putting a new bumper cover on my `11, which has the GFX kit. I was planning to swap over my lip/splitter to the new front end, even though it needs refinishing work. In doing so, I've learned it is a french cleat type mounting setup with one time rivets. So I've got it off, but I'm pretty concerned about drilling the new bumper without a template. And this thing apparently had tape involved and other junk.
So, does anyone happen to have a leftover template from installing a GFX kit. Or anyone with an SS with the GFX kit on it put on a different front lip? Like to see what you've got. I'm wondering about how the side look flows between GFX side skirts and some other front lip. |

Sorry brother, I do not have or know of any templates for the bracket holes. I have GFX and shattered my OEM GFX front splitter a few years back. It is nearly impossible to find a used GFX splitter AND intact mounting hardware. So I decided to go with the SLP style front splitter, which is a fairly common choice for 5th gen owners. Only issue is it leaves visible holes from where the mounting brackets used to be for the GFX setup.
I would love to get a used GFX from a salvage yard, but also getting intact brackets would be like winning the lottery. I hate that GM discontinues such sought after parts all the damned time. There are tons of GFX splitter clones on Amazon and Ebay, but none of them come with the mounting hardware, which is an absolute must for a splitter with such an aggressive angle. 3M tape alone will NOT hold this on the car. This picture is with the SLP style splitter. It looks great, but I still prefer the GFX splitter, of course, since it is part of a matching kit and looks much more aggressive. If I can find another picture that better shows the splitter at a different angle I will post it, unless someone else beats me to it.

I do have the splitter (needs refinishing) and the mount hardware. Kind of a french cleat setup. I could put it back, but without the template, I'm a bit worried about getting the drill locations right, especially the sides. They are separate little pieces. Obviously, once I drill it, that's it. And like you said, with other splitters the holes will show. Also wondering how hard it is to pull the splitter back over the mount hardare. Anything is fixable, just trying to think of best route. |

Not sure where to get a template but you could always make a mock up one with cardboard and tape it to the bumper to mark the holes in the correct spot once you get it where you want it.

Cool car man. I’ve been trying to decide between the SLP, ZL1 style, and the 13-15 Z28 style. That SLP is sharp looking.

Thanks, I thought so as well. I've only ever scraped it once ( my car is lowered 1.25" all around ), and it was pretty easy to install. Definitely improved the look.
