You have to break down the name, its a code.
Z - stands for zero, which is the sum of how many they will make. 28 - 2x8 = two V8 motors, also called a W16, is being developed by GM and the Russian Space agency. It will have 28hp to coincide with the model name.

Oh I think most of the negative reaction was to the 'Z28 = turbo' comment....

That and historically I've never heard of a Camaro coming with a turbo from the factory. Maybe he was referring to the silver GM/Jay Leno Camaro that everyone THOUGHT was a possible Z28 but was really a V6 twin turbo setup...

Back in the day (1969), the Z/28 was a lot of rev's, but not a lot of muscle. You got a solid cam 302 with 11:1 compression. It was a stout motor, but pretty small for the day. If you wanted more muscle, specifically a big block V8, you had to get the SS. The SS was king of the hill. They don't seem to care too much about how they badge their engine options these days. As long as they release this Camaro with one of the two superchaged 6.2liter motors, I really don't care what they call it. I'll buy it regardless.
