Isn't Formula 1 automatically shifted except for the 1st gear? Granted that's a different kind of automatic transmission (dual clutch, correct?)

And from what I understand, NASCAR is mostly just raced in the top gear because most events involve speed over acceleration.

In either case, claiming anything based on motorsport is kind of specious...no one in high end auto races is rowing gears, they are paddle shifted if shifted at all since the human leg/arm is not fast enough to keep up.

Also, the Nurburgring CTS-V time was done in an automatic. Long gone are the days of the whole setup being based solely on pressure of some hydraulic fluid...modern automatics are computer controlled, with highly complex algorithms that determine optimal shift points. They are full well able to keep up, even in the twisties.

I would have gotten an automatic in the camaro if you could have gotten the ls3
because of the type of car it is. The screwing thing is that with the mustang I feel like I have to have a manual. I don't get it . It's just my feeling.

slow cars with a manual make you think they are faster.

Good point. I think your right. I was always redlining the thing just to make it feel like it was going. I think it's more because of torque than HP.
