Muffler recommendation

Hey,
I put on the "Solo Axleback with J-pipes" last year and loved the sound. No drone at all. Then I added headers, highflow cats and cam this year and I'm finding I don't like the sound under heavy throttle at all. It's okay under regular driving, but when I get on it, the sound is just too raspy. I'd describe it as a scream more than a roar. With the top up, it's not horrible but with it down, it is very loud and not cool sounding. It's also VERY loud on startup which I don't care for since it will tick off the neighbors at 6am.

I've used magnaflow mufflers on past cars and like the deeper tone. Does anybody have any experience with them along with headers? Will adding them take the volume down a notch or two? Which muff will fit properly? Videos are tough to judge.

Thanks everyone,
Bob

Well for one thing, when you installed the LT's and HFC's, you doubled the sound coming out and with the HFC's being pretty open you will get some rasp especially if your system has an "x pipe" in it since it is pretty much straight through. The cam addition also bumped up the sound as well. Before I got my Corsa system installed I was straight piped for a couple days and couldn't stand it, it was sooo loud. So I bought one of these Magnaflow mid mufflers and it brought it down to an exceptable level. Some of the other folks on here have one as well to knock it down a tad, and they sound good to boot. You could do that instead of trying to get 2 mufflers for the rear. Good luck.

Don't worry about your neighbors, worry about you. Go back to stock if you don't like it.

Finish out your Solo exhaust with the rest of the catback. A muffled/resonated x pipe makes a difference. That's what I'm running and yes, there is a little pop on the initial fire up, it isn't obnoxious throughout the neighborhood. I even added Noweeds diverters to wake the car up a little extra once I'm out of the neighborhood.

Flowmasters! Nothing gives the growl and roar like them. They sound great all the time especially on a cammed car with long tubes.

Gotta agree somewhat, the Flowmasters I had on before the Corsa did sound great, BUT the drone, oh man the drone!! Cruising was not fun. But with your j-pipes you should be able to tune it out. But, I'd still go with the mid muffler x-pipe as pyro and I suggested. Good luck with what you do go with.

That's a good idea! It may be easier to get a mid muffler in there than to try and fit two at the back. I was only concerned a single mid muffler may not quiet it enough. But your suggestion means I can also keep the j pipes to cancel out drone.

Would you happen to know the P/N of that magnaflow mid muff? Also, did it help to "deepen" the tone at all? I prefer a deeper sound.

THanks again!

The part number is in the link I provided, and yes, when I had it on my Camaro it calmed it down a bit and gave it a deeper tone, the Magnaflow tone. lol.

If you are not looking to buy a new system, we agree with 1JEWLDSSRS on adding the Magnaflow. Not too expensive even paying for install and sound great as is.

We hope you find what your looking for. Let us know if you need anything. Good luck!
