LS3 rebuild, what to do while it’s out?

After a long battle of cosmetically fixing my 2013 SS and not being able to drive it much for the past year, cylinder #7 decided it didn’t want to play anymore…. Right after I got it painted and driveable.
A leak down test showed me #7 lost compession and being that it was leaking from the breather/oil fill area I’ve narrowed it down to piston rings. I’m going to be doing the rebuild myself this coming week or two and I was wondering what preventative maintenance/ reliability mods y’all would do to the motor. Currently it’s a cam only engine with long tube headers. I’d like to port and polish the heads while they’re out but leaving that as the only “power upgrade”. I just need the car to be reliable. Thanks for any help!

I know a ton of people forget about the oil diverter barbell. They make an inexpensive billet version. If you haven't already, replace the timing set and the tensioner with the dogbone type. Good quality set of lifters, maybe link bar type so you can lose the plastic lifter trays. Melling oil pump? Considered any ARP hardware for the bottom end?

I am intentionally leaving out all of the normal stuff that you are likely already replacing as part of the rebuild.

While you are doing the heads give serious consideration to shaft mount rocker arms

how many miles are on it & what is your budget. Pics of the bores would help also. If you have any severe cylinder scoring rings alone might not be the answer. Do you know how to use a cylinder bore gauge? If not you might want to consider sending the block out to have it checked out. If you don't start with a good foundation you will be inviting trouble. Rod & main journal measurements are a must. Post as many pics as you can.
