Speed dependent whine - could it be rear diff?
Looking at a 2012 SS 6mt, car has a whine that changes in volume and pitch as speed changes above 35mph. Could it possibly be a diff bearing or something driveline related? Hoping it may be tires as it has 275/315 continental extremecontacts that have very little wear on them and was driving on relatively new pavement. Not really sure what it is, looking for advice on what could potentially be the issue as a diff rebuild would not be ideal.

If you can, drive it on different road surface type ( new, old, pavement, concrete etc) and see if it changes depending on road type which would be tires.
Can you determine if it is front or rear? |

Could be wheel hub bearings.

Not really sure if its front or rear, noise kind of fills the entire car. Good shout on the wheel bearings I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the replies guys, will try to drive it on a different surface and hopefully get a better picture of the situation after the inspection is done.

Pretty simple to replace. You do need a pretty big socket though.
