Spark Plug Replacement, Yet Again
This is the second time I had to replace a plug on this car. First time was at 5k, when the car was 3 years old. Now I had to replace another one. 16K this time. Both times they were carbon tracked. Doesn't seem like an appropriate time to replace all plugs, since the car just has 16K on it. Yes the car is 10 yo. Does anyone know if these supercharged Camaros are hard on plugs, or am I just unlucky? Both times I was out doing spirited driving and had a misfire on my way home. Also I found oil on the threads this time when I removed plug 8. No leaks from the valve cover or anything. Any ideas for me as to why so many bad plugs at low miles or the oil on the threads?

Carbon tracked is not the plugs fault, something else is going on.
My ZL1 had 85K miles on the OEM plugs with no issues

Sure, but why would oil just be on the threads?

I couldn't see any leaks from above and the part of the plug that goes into the head didn't look like it was burning oil

You wouldn't see oil at the plug tip unless you were pretty much having complete blowby as it would burn off which each piston cycle, again if you are not seeing smoke out the exhaust under acceleration its likely coming from above somewhere. |

I guess I could check the tightness of the valve cover on that side but when I looked for an oil drip I didn't see any.

Next time post a picture of the plug, most likely that cylinder is using some oil. I've seen it forced down the threads many times. Was the plug fouled or tracked on the outside?

The plug just was carbon tracked.

Never had to deal with a carbon tracked spark plug personally, but Dr. Google says that it's a plug wire problem, not a spark plug problem.

I would assume that they use dielectric grease from the factory. This car has only 16k mi on it. I am original owner. I obviously used the term silicone (grease) meaning dielectric silicone grease as I thought those terms were interchangeable, but I guess not.
