Many get the urge. Kinda been there myself. Take a good nap, it'll go away. People (strangers) love the 5th Gen. Did you 6th Genners get the same responses?

I'v had my 2011 new and i'v had 0 problems, i did put a re-manufactured engine in it, but that was only because i wanted a peace of mind, after all it was over 10 years old and my Camaro is my daily driver.

Yeah, probably just a mid-life crisis in the making ...
Right now it is almost a 50-50 coin flip whether I keep nothing but my boring daily driver hatchback or end up with a ZL1 by the end of the month ... given those two extremes "take a nap" is sage advice.

Do you mean just that the car payments were a burden or did they need extra tune-ups and maintenance due to the additional wear and tear of the supercharger?
Voiding warranties was basically my motto in my 20s but as I get older I care more about saving time than money ... thus the appeal of a brand new ZL1 now that I can finally afford it!

To the op. I plan to have at least one 5th gen (my current ABM) until I die. And I’m only in my 30’s so that should be a long time. I’m planning to add another in the next year or two. Like cracka said, blink your eyes and the 6th gen parts are going to be equally as hard to find and with all the extra tech they have it’ll be that much more of a pain in the ass to keep them going. And don’t even get me started about the ugly ass refreshed front end. The 16-18’s look better but no where near what the 5ths do. At no point since their inception has the 6th outsold the lowest sales numbers of the 5th gen. There’s a lot to be said about that.

It was all business. Loved that car. One I wish I still had. What I am saying is that simple is better. I would order my cars with hand-crank, roll-up windows if I could.

I might be a good example of what the 5th gen brought to the table, retro-wise. It would be almost impossible for someone born in 1956 to be oblivious to the Chevy Camaro. I was a 'car kid' and 11 years old when they came out in '67. But...I was really not a huge fan of ANY gen until the 5th came along. I liked the bigger 442, Chevelle, Road Runner, etc. body style over the cramped, little Camaro.
Oh, hell, I could wax eloquently and bore the shit out you. So I won't. I just thought the 2010 5th really captured the old and the new very well. Not too much retro and not too 'futuristic' fluff. Out!

I hate talking down to another Camaro but I also debated on which generation to get as a cash buyer. I'm not a fan of the 6th gen. I bought the Gen 5 and modded it to handle better and go faster than a Gen 6 SS.
Gen 6 just doesn't know what it wants to be styling wise. It's not as fun to drive as a gen 5. It's cramped inside and frankly extremely plain. Gen 5 has character inside and out. As the 6th and 5th gen age, it will be glaringly obvious that the 5th gen is the more simple and reliable platform. LS3 is possibly the most bulletproof performance engine of all time. Direct injection LT1 isn't an engine I'd want to keep long term. The only thing I like about gen 6 is the lightened alpha platform. Otherwise, every single comparison makes me prefer a 5th gen. Also, pre face-lift Gen 5 SS/ZL1 has road presence that a similar trim Gen 6 can't match. |

The moment I saw the prototype 5th gen in 2007, I knew that some day I would have one. Today I have two...grin...
