But I digress. I still believe that the Camaro will be worth something regardless of what happens in the near future. Regardless of which generation you have. I must admit, I do miss my 2002 SS, but only until I open up on one of the 5th gens. It's a different feel, but still a good vibe.
I'm just sad that more and more of the younger generation are more concerned with cutting off their nuts instead of driving and working on a car that has some. I don't care what EV may be faster. NO EV in the world can get your heart pumping like grinding through the gears with a manual transmission and making some real noise. EVs, IMO, have no "soul". Doesn't mean they're all bad. Go buy one if you want. Just not for me.

I'll chime in on behalf of the younger people I guess, I'm near my mid 20s now so kind of losing that status, but all the new cars are not for young people, everyone I know drives a high mile beater from 90s and 2000s mainly just trying to keep it running, don't think I know a single person that could even afford an EV, I think I'm one of maybe 2 or 3 people I know with a car under 100k miles. Most new cars are targeted at older buyers with cushy and comfortable, quiet ride with a price tag that aims at those who got some time in their occupation. That being said, most people still just see car as a tool or an inconvenience so they will gravitate towards the soft, quiet, fuel efficient plain cars but I would argue that has existed for some time before. I've had a few friends interested in modifying cars but always turn around when they see the price tag, to my frustration at times seems most people I meet my age prioritize practicality over fun. I only see a small piece of the puzzle though so not going to speak for all young people, just the few dozen people I know my age and younger.

I read the other day that several different EV’s have 90+ day supplies on dealer lots because they aren’t selling. Normal targeted supply time is 30 days as I understand it.

I see a lot of people say that younger folks don't like cars like they used to, but gear heads weren't a large percentage of the student body when I was in high school. Now, I see OSW is so crowded, I only go on Sunday morning before the youngsters can get out of bed. People are doing burn outs on every corner and every POS that drives by my garage feels like they need to rev the engine, not my house, the garage which is on the lot next to my house. I don't know if they are trying to say hi or challenge me to a race, but it's all good. I wish more could afford solid muscle cars instead of the crap they are trying to mod, but I had to mod crap at that age, and it taught me how to work with what I had.

Nothing wrong with that. Frankly it is impressive to see 20-somethings even knowing what is prudent. I was up to my eye balls in debt, bad decisions, and absolute ignorance at that age. For example the reason I had two used 4th gens around your age was so I could drive one while I repaired the other. Almost got evicted from my apartment for leaving one disassembled for too long in my parking space!

That's funny, because die-hard Mustang guys swear that the new 2024 Mustang now looks just like a Camaro.

Holy hell there is a ton of nonsense swarming around the 6th and final generation!
The test drive was phenomenal but the more I read the Camaro6 forum the more it seems like I might be better off without the fuss. Everything from ridiculous malfunctioning electronics to rampant theft! I am sure I would enjoy driving the beast as the paranoia and problems would be melted away and drowned out by some throttle. It does not seem as hassle free as a new car should be after yesterday though!

5th Gens get stolen too, especially on the West Coast. They ship the power trains overseas for LS swaps.

What gets me more than anything is EV's stuffed down our throat's and electronics in all the cars to the point where most cars are now a nightmare to work on. Neighbor has 6th gen Camaro and the AC hasn't worked in a few years because the electrical system that controls it is so complicated its always broken. From what I understand it uses 6 different sensors to monitor the cabin temp and if ANY are faulty the system will not work. He had it back to the dealer many many times and finally just gave up on it.
Last month the key fobs stopped working in my wifes car. I took it to the dealer for reprogramming BUT at 1st the techs were lost in the sauce trying to tell me it had a major BCM trouble blaa blaa blaa. Well I told them right out REPROGAM the key fobs in. They argued with me told me the new key fobs would not work and "they didn't trust them" <what ever the hell that means. Luckily the service manager told the techs who by the way were older techs with 30 years experience GO REPROGRAM THE KEY FOBS IN and of course it worked. BUT its a example of how complicated things have gotten that even a simple key fob problem gets the techs lost. Another scary problem is most ALL techs if you want to call them that are the bottom of the barrel but are working on cars made to be serviced by ENGINEERS.< this is what scares me the most. I personally will never buy another car newer than 2015 and I'm looking for a low mileage 2002 or older car so I can just get off the electronics ransome wagon. Friend has a new Dodge ram 20k on it ALL the HVAC actuators died. Cost too repair it? 3500 dollars, now luckily it was under warranty but who pays when it craps out again at 40k or 60k? Prime example of the garbage made today. |
