Service Stabilitrack / P0336 crankshaft position sensor code

Hello Everyone, I’m hoping I can get some answers. I have a 2013 Camaro 1LE with 78k miles. Car was driving fine, I get to a stop and the car starts to run rough, all lights came on ( stabilitrack/TC etc.) but the check engine light didn’t come on. Anyways the car ran rough, rpm gauge didn’t work, sounded like it went in safe mode. The car did have this ticking sound under the car. I park the car and a few hours later the car turns on and runs fine without any of the lights on but has the Service Stabilitrack still on the dash and ticking sound still. Car has power and I don’t hear any grinding or mechanical issues besides the ticking underneath the car. I took it to the dealer and they said I need a new engine, but if that is correct the car wouldn’t start, I’ll have leaks or I’ll hear something terribly wrong or some type of smoke but nothing. Any answers would help, I’m picking up the car from the dealer to have the sensor changed at a local Mechanic but any suggestions would be appreciated. I’ll post an update once I get the crankshaft position sensor changed.

Thank You

Andre Estrella

No way to tell whether you need a new engine from the limited data given. But if the dealer didn't give you any data to back that up, have someone else look at it.

But I also wouldn't have someone just change the CPS. There are several different things to set the code so I would find a good shop and let them diagnose it. If you tell them to change the sensor and that isn't the problem, then it will be on you, not them.

Thank you for the reply, the dealership didn’t give me anything to go by. Just a list of things I needed and one of them was an engine , but I drove it back from the dealership yesterday just fine. Without any codes or anything on the dash. I did take this video as I got home. Hope it helps to give some answers, in the mean time I purchased a crankshaft position sensor which the code came up. I’ll install it and see if it does anything for the ticking. Below is the video.

From the video. It sounds like you have a bad lifter ! Is this an automatic?
