dealer mounted my rear lic plate crooked.

leaving it up to some guy working flat rate to drill the proper dimples was not a good Idea by GM. its off enough that people can tell its crooked. now.. to clearance my lic plate mounting holes, or.. try to make new holes.

My dealer was too scared to do it so I drilled the holes myself. I'm glad it went that way!

Having heard of this happening more than once I told the deal not to drill the holes too.

Use the plate as a template. Leave one side in, put a level on the bottom of the plate, tape it and drill out the other hole. Use the higher of the two. That way when you drill out the other, it's covered. If you use the lower one, there is a chance you might see the oblong hole. Good Luck. Sorry that happened.

My dealer put the screws in on my '22 crooked too. I had to drill out the license plate holes to get it level. You also may be able to redrill inside the holes in the bumper and move the center(s) slightly to fix the level.

The bumper covers have dimples in them where the screws go. I wonder if some covers have a bit of core shift or whoever puts the screws in just isnt hitting the center of the dimples.

The idiot who drilled mine out at the dealer shifted the holes to the right. There are very clear dimples on the back bumper. A 4th grader could drill them in the center. Tells you what kind of people get hired at dealers.

The bumper covers are typically EPDM, which is basically polypropylene with a stiffener. A drilled hole should be an easy fix with a glue gun, as hot glue sticks are polypropylene. Give it a nice squirt so it bulges on both sides, then maybe flatten the one side with a piece of waxed paper. When it cools you can redrill it.
