Blend door broken need inverter advice
Hey guys, Im not new but it's been a long time.
The dreaded blend door issue hit me in Michigan and I am aware there is a work around instead of pulling the windshield and dash. My issue is it freaks me out even thinking about cramming my ample a$$ into that space to fix it. So I want to temporarily install a power inverter. I tried the plug in 12v lighter version and it didn't work at all. It is not powerful enough for even the weakest heater. So I want to try one of the ones that hook to the battery. Problem is, I have a convertible. So running cables through the rear seems difficult. Any suggestions? Even youtube isn't helping for the first time. |

Lot's of great details in the link above, including my 2 cents. (last few pages)
"My issue is it freaks me out even thinking about cramming my ample a$$ into that space to fix it." - With the seat removed there's enough room to get your a$$ in there but there isn't much you can do about the cramped quarters under the dash. In theory, it's a fairly easy fix. I found it to be a pretty big PIA. But saved mucho dinero!

So you are planning on trying to run a 120v heater off of an 12v to 120v inverter?
This just sounds like you asking for issues. Maybe look into heated motorcycle clothing. |

It's what all the best dressed Camaro owners with busted blend doors are wearing this winter! ![]() Where's that GM Cust Service rep that used to hang here? This is an absolutely stupid fail for such an otherwise decent vehicle. Look what we're reduced to. Your choices are either spend $2000 to $4000 to install a $20 part, depending on your state, crawl under the dash and hack a hole, or go without heat and or air conditioning.

You would have to find an inverter rated for a higher wattage than what your heater is rated. Its not a good idea due to the chance of a fire if it were to come in contact with anything or fall over. For what you would have to invest in this temporary fix it would probably cost you less to find someone handy to replace it for you, or try to sneak a piece of wire in and open it-you will need to drill a small hole to do that.

I'm not either so disregard my comments. They only apply to 2010 coupe, 2SS, L99, Black, w/added LSA supercharger and located in North Alabama. I haven't decided if the particular county matters. And what about the Sun Roof?

Also just thought of getting a portable 500w power station. They really aren't expensive. Sounds like it can power a 450w heater. |

Given that a blow dryer is 1500 watts, I wouldn't expect much.

A 12v heater would probably serve you better and be safer. You won't be pulling extra power into an inverter for voltage conversion.
https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-...1zcF9hdGY&th=1 I own a vert and I can't imagine what would be different under the dash. I see no difference between that an my 2010. Perhaps the broken blend door is not open far enough to provide sufficient heat. Does the blend door affect the amount of outside air coming in.
