Looking for an advice about 2010 Camaro SS
Hi everyone,
I am looking for an advice about 2010 Camaro SS. I have decided to buy 5th generation of Camaro long time ago and finally found one. I went to take a look at it, everything was fine until when we were parking the car after test drive and a warning message showed up that said Stabilitrek Service. The car has around 31k miles, the owner said it had been sitting for a long time and he filled up with 93 octane gas before test drive (he said he used that gas always). THe car does not have any modifications, only mufflers were deleted. The owner said he connected a scanning device and did not find any codes about that message. I ma not very familiar with this generation. Does anyone know how bad it is and What I can expect from the car after purchasing it? Should I even consider to buy it after that warning message? Thanks everyone for helping! (just random photo from the internet) https://www.camaro5.com/forums/attac...1&d=1702712004 |

I would suspect if it’s been sitting a long time maybe the battery is on its way out. These cars are notorious for doing all kinds of weird things (stabilitrac warnings being one of them) when the battery is on the way out.

Gonna need to get a scanner on it that can read all the connected modules. No one can tell you how much it will cost to fix. Could be $200 for a battery , or much more without knowing the fault.
That being said, 31k is pretty low mileage for a driver and should last a long time with proper care. If it was me and the price was right and the car I wanted, I wouldn’t let that stabilitrac stop me from buying it.

Pretty simple have the owner agree to have a dealer check it out. 120 dollars or so later you'll have a solid opinion. Otherwise I wouldn't buy it, could be anything.

Another vote for the battery being suspect.

And another vote for the battery. As stated above, since the car has been sitting a while, chances are the battery is in bad shape. When the battery gets "old", and not used for some time the voltage gets low and then these camaros kind of "freak out" due to the low voltage and show all kinds of lights on the dash, and sometimes they won't idle or drive smoothly. Have them check the battery, charge it if needed, or just have it replaced and you should be fine.

I agree with all of the above. Ask the owner for service records as well. They are selling a car with a fault & if they are reluctant to have a reputable shop check it out they could be chasing the problem. On the other hand if they install a new battery or put a charger on it & the fault goes away then all is well.

@Aqua Blue RS/SS - So right you are!!!
I've learned that the hard way almost nine years ago... and got a refresher course these past two days.

Yep, that's why you have to be careful buying a used car. If there is something wrong, and there is a CEL on, or any other "system"error showing, I would not even think about buying it until THEY, the seller fixes the problem. Not good ethics to sell something like that. Buyer beware, know what's going on!!
