Personally I have found them to be very similar in open spaces like a wide open unlit field for example. In roads surrounded by trees, homes, or other places for the light to bounce and reflect they are significantly brighter in my housings versus HID.

Just picked up a 2018 ZL1 last week - and the lights are really dim. For those that have done it, is the bulb replacement enough (going from HID to LED), or did you do the whole housing?

The HIDs in a 5 year old car would have dimmed since new. I’d just put the LEDs in or a better HID

Having done both the LED upgrade and a full housing replacement they are really for different people. The LED upgrade is a great option for a good replacement of the OEM bulbs and give a fair bit of a light output boost. If you really want the best, drive a lot at night, or want the look even I absolutely love the Morimoto full housings I got. Crazy amount of light output and well worth it in my case but it’s obviously significantly more expensive and involved of an upgrade. Really comes down to your use case to make that decision IMO.

I jinxed myself... A week after my last post driver's side Morimoto died, happen to catch it at the end when bulb illuminated orange. This could be my fault, I pulled this side bulb out a few couple of times to try some 3000K D3S bulbs and possible bulb could have rubbed on something when reinstalling.

Old Morimoto D3S 5000K bulbs were 2yrs old and had 40K miles on them.

Generic 3000K D3S bulbs do NOT fit if anyone was curious.
