Weld wheels and MT ET Street R problem.

Well I put my tires together in the garage today and surprise surprise. One step forward and two steps back. I was looking so forward to put them on my car today. Oh well shit happens.

Guess they couldn’t hold the street PSI of 28 pounds.

Wow, guess it’s just a bad tire. That should do that all day long normally.

Agree with this, because I had that same model and size tire, pumped it up to 32psi for the street drive, and had nothing like that appear. You just happened to get a defective one is what seemed to happen here.

Not saying this happened, but there is a warning to not exceed max pressure to seat the bead.

Am I the only one who wants to poke it with a stick?

There are lots of complaints on the web about poor-quality MT tires. My last pair had flat spots. It seems like every pair I've owned vibrated at speed.

Air pressure on machine was set to 28 psi.

I am waiting for the tire place and his supplier to give me an answer to warranty. IMO should be a no brainer and they should replace the tire. Wasn’t even mounted on car or driven. Hopefully common sense prevails.

Unfortunately they’re fast tires and offer models and sizes others do not. :(

that is an isolated bad tire incident. hoosier makes comparable tires, as well.

you ever get any time slips with this setup?

Up here in Toronto, Saturday was 1st day opening at the track. It was cloudy and cool, about 51F. The prep was not good and lots of spinning in 1,2,3 on shi_t nitto tires. The plan was to use the Mickeys but that didn’t happen. I had lots of wheel hop as well. Six passes and shut down 3 of them. Best time that day was only 11.6 at 127 with spinning and short shift. Need to dial this car in, so need more runs, warmer temps with sun and better tires on.

Even on a 1LE, I’m surprised you get wheel hop at 17-18 psi

Non 1LE SS cars do not wheel hop ever in my experience. I would see if you can get your alignment closer to an SS.

I think it’s more power then the Nitto’s could handle maybe or it’s bushing deflection within the suspension. Might have to upgrade to BMR. Going to get an alignment as u suggested and try the Mickey Thompsons before doing anything else. The wheel hop was bad, and others watching said glad u shut it down on the run because they could hear it.

Could be this to, launching the car I am currently only leaving at 2800 rpm. (That’s not high)
“ Hard launches - 'stick cars are most prone to it, so avoiding clutch dumps @ high rpm is required to avoid it. It requires feathering the throttle to get wheelspin w/o inducing wheelhop.”
