Used or New EPS rack

Would you guys buy new EPS rack ($2000+) or low mileage eps rack ($300-$400)?

1 of the sites says 1 year replacement warranty..... But their warranty reasoning is kind of dumb. Need to install it to see if it works... if it doesn't work, and you install it then the warranty is void.

RETURNS ARE ACCEPTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF DELIVERY DATE. NO EXCEPTIONS. No labor warranty is provided. This used item comes with replacement Warranty (Parts ONLY - NO Labor). If installation was attempted parts can not be returned.

Warranty applies to parts that arrive defective/damaged/incorrect or become defective within the warranty period. Refunds are capped at the original item & shipping price. Does not include any labor, diagnostics, towing, or any other expense related to an item being defective/damaged/incorrect.

All that means is if you install it you can't return for a refund, if you do install it and have a problem within a year they will replace it not refund you.
I am all about new but for the price difference I would go used.

I'd risk a used one if you are doing the work yourself.
If you need to pay a shop to do the work, I'd probably let that shop do the whole deal with warranty that hopefully including labor.

That's what I kind of figured that's what that meant.

I can go either route, but most likely go through 1 of my shops since I have no time. Even with a new 1, if that goes bad with in a year, I'll still have to foot the bill. At least with the used it still has 1 year, and it's $1800 cheaper.

Do you guys know if anything has to be reprogrammed?

Found a new rack for 900$, warranty is questionable tho.

So $355 for used and with 1 year warranty, or new for $863 with no warranty..

I've replaced what needed to be replaced, and added what needed to be added(new battery/grounds etc). Also checked the voltage supply, as well as checked the status of alternator. Got the codes read and cleared, and still nothing.

I've been following your journey with this and I'd agree that you have pretty much exhausted everything else. Did you ever find out if there is any programming or "pairing" to be done on the new rack?

BTW, How do you like that Diagnostic tool? I've been eye balling it as I'd like to have something that can communicate with all the modules on board.

Thanks,
Brian

This journey sucks ass. lol

Based on from this thread, I'm assuming so. I'm bringing it to my shop that did my build, so he's going to take care of everything. He said he's done a fair amount power steering swaps from the SS to Camaros.

This is the 1 I purchased....Autel Scanner MaxiCOM MK808S.
The touchscreen reminded me of the cheaper android phones. Ok overall, since this is my 1st high priced scanner. I did buy other ones that claimed to read/clear the codes I needed "fixed", but they didn't do anything. It's sure as hell better than the $2000 snap on ones for the price ($416). I think it's a little overkill for me. Just depends on what your daily intentions are with the car. I'm lending it to my buddy who works on all his cars, and is a master tech for BMW. See how he likes it.

Going to purchase the new rack. I can get a replacement warranty through allstate/squaretrade. So about 1090 when it's all said and done. That replacement warranty covers labor too. Still a far cry from $2300.

If you pay by credit card check with them, some cards put a warranty on every purchase but you have to ask.

Good call. I have the chase sapphire reserve, and I double checked and they extend the manufacturers warranty by an additional year. I wonder how that'll work since technically it doesn't have the warranty.
